Command retrofit

I got everything on my except for the rain-sensor and COMMAND. The rain-sensor requires a new windshiled, a $700 retrofit so I'm not interested.

Would a COMMAND retrofit be possible or cost-effective?

Its trivial to do in the C class in the US

All the aerials are already there, you just need to make a wiring adapter loom up to connect the existing C plug in the wiring loom to the C1 and C2 plugs on the COMAND

I have a document that explains how to make the loom, (its draft at the moment), PM me your email address.

Note, I havent done this, I have helped various people in the US to do this. I have done this on other MB vehicles here in the UK ..

As to rain sensor, wait until you break your windscreen and ensure they replace it with one with a rain sensor mounting plate on it. Im sure the sensor itself isnt too expensive ..

Justin, it is possible to retrofit a Comand system in a non-Comand equipped car. If you think the $700 price tag to retrofit the rain sensor onto your car is a lot, the Comand retrofit will cost upwards of $3000+.

If you are going to retrofit a Comand, make certain that you get the Comand offered in Europe with the option to watch TV and whatnot .

Well, the reason I think $700 is too much is that the option is $200. That would be equivalent to a COMMAND retrofit costing $7000.

A Command unit can be had off of German e-bay for $1000. Explain to me where the other $2000 in cost comes from.

Ah, I didn't know you planned to purchase it from Ebay. If you buy it from a dealership, the Comand system alone will cost more than the option itself, and then they get you on labor fees.

Justin

I would be very interested in what steps you are taking to get command in your car. Any information you can pass along would be appreciated.

thanks
