RS-4 can only manage a 102MPH trap?
The $74k RS-4 ran 13.0 @ 102 in motor trend.... sure it's quick off the line, but the C32/C55 will fly right by it.... what a joke! RS-4 won't last long here in the states just like the RS-6...... the CTS-V it was compared against pulled 109 MPH which is moving pretty good....

Hey Buddy, if your going to the road course, save some cash and get a Z06....... not a 4 door sedan.....

Gotta agree with you though Fiske... that's a pathetic time and trap speed for a 74k car

ok, if you want to spend $74,000.00 on a car that can do a roadcourse in the snow, the RS-4 is the car...... or maybe the Evo for less than 1/2 the price? I'm sure the Audi is a great car, but it's way over priced....

A regular S4 trap's around 102-103 IIRC, so this sounds fishy, I bet other test will yield faster results (say 105 - 106 MPH). Perhaps the track was hot and or at a high elevation. They may correct for elevation in MT though...

Who gives a **** about trap speed and quarter mile? If you want an incredible quarter mile time, go buy a mustang GT and put a supercharger on it and nitrous, etc. etc. A time around the track is much more relevant to me and is much more indicative of the overall capabilities and performance of a vehicle than the quarter mile. In Europe, none of the major automobile magazines (e.g. Auto Motor & Sport, Sport Auto and Autobild, etc.) even measure or publish quarter mile times.
It's about versatility, and that's where the Audi wins hands down. There are very few 4 door sedans that will perform as well as the RS4 on the track, be comfortable to use for everyday driving, be perfectly capable to drive in winter/wet conditions and have the quality and aesthetics that Audi offers. $74,000 is not an excessive amount to pay for what the RS4 offers.

You can't measure anything from a single magazine test. Look at this video...

I think a C55 would have trouble beating an M3 by that much and 7 times in a row no less. The RS4 beat the M3 off the line and continued to put distance on the M3.
And in this test, it trapped 109.7...

And in the 0-100-0 test, it did pretty well...

during everyday driving, when I'm spending $74,000.00 on a car, I want somethat can hold it's own with some highway pulling power, and that's what the trap speed indicates..... maybe it pulls harder than indicated in that test, but 102MPH is pathetic for that kind of cash.....

You have to look at the car's virtues, and how it gets used in the real world. Super fast, all weather, comfortable, attractive and exclusive. But it should be a $64,000 car, tops. Just like the RS6, it will be a great bargain in a couple of years. Audi seems to think it can command a premium price in the US market, but it's not quite there yet. Despite all the ALMS victories and developing the two best race cars of modern time, people in the US don't see it. What's the last great all-BMW race car made?

I agree with many here that the 13.0 second 1/4 mile time that MT got is probably a bit high. Road & Track tested the RS4 and got a 1/4 mile time in the 12's.
If you look a the majority of the tests that have been performed, the RS4 is clearly FASTER than the C55/M3 in EVERY WAY. Way faster in a straight line, and faster on a track.
If you look at straightline acceleration as a measure of performance, it approaches the E55/M5 territory, and it's cheaper than those big boys.
On the Nurburgring track, the RS4 is even faster than the almighty M5, and that's quite an achievement.
The S4 is meant to be a more "affordable" performance version of the A4 . The RS4 will appeal to those hardcore Audi enthusiasts that want the absolute best and are willing to pay the big bucks to get that exclusivity.
I won't be too surprised that the next V8 M3 will also go upscale in terms of price. The new BMW 335 turbo 3 series already has performance which is very close to the current M3.

e'll realy know if it is overpriced when BMW brings out the V8 M3 and sets a price on it. And we'll get another data point if MB does a C63. However, in the RS4 defense, the materials used and attention to detail currently surpass the C55 and M3. I really doubt that the M3 will come with as nice an interior as the RS4. On purely straightline performance, I agree the price is steep but not everything is about drag racing on the highway. The car is plenty quick. My only real complaints is it should weigh about 400 lbs less and I hate exposed cup holders on a luxury car.

an E55/M5 would leave the RS-4 in the dust for a straightline run.... 102MPH vs 116 MPH is a huge beat down..... even if it pulls 107MPH, it's still not even close...

yep, plus there is going to be a lot of easy mods for that 335i twin turbo....
