Anyone here driven the new Lotus Exige?

I saw one at the track the other day. The car looked stunning with the black rims and british racing green paint and bucket seats. I think Lotus has really put together an awesome vehicle with the Exige. I wouldn't want to go on a road trip in that thing, but for weekend track sessions, it probably doesn't get much better than that. What I love about Lotus is their unwavering commitment to achieve performance through reduced weight. They really are unique amongst auto manufacturers in that respect.

Anyone here driven one yet? I might try to find out who the local dealer is and see if I can get a test drive I think it would be a nice complement to the C55 I'll keep y'all posted on my first impressions.

For years, I've taken my european autos to a local service establishment that provides excellent service. They also happen to be the area Lotus dealer, so I've spent a good amount of time in and around the cars. As a track car, the Esprit & Exige are fantastic. However, they are just not powerful enough to woo me. There is, of course, a solution to that problem - but it's not cheap!

Edit - I forgot they tested another different modded Elise too.

they should of just put a supercharged 6 or a v8 in there.

i`ve driven the standard car 111r with Toyota vvi engine and the 240R (s/c 1.8) and was impressed with the dynamics but the prices are crazy and the quality and reliability are very poor.

Apparently Lotus has improved quality dramatically this time around. Who knows though, time is the only way to reveal that.

When I lived in Europe a couple of years ago I remember reading about a Lotus tuner that used the RS4 engine (v6 twin turbo) in an Elise. The car was a rocket an blew everything else away. I'll see if I can dig up the article or see if I can find any info on that car/tuner.

if you want a nice complement to the c55, that isn't very practical for every day driving, and great for the track, how about the atom? i think that car would be so fun to drive. power to weight ratio =

Yeah, but they don't sell them in the US. Plus, I really like the looks of the Exige, whereas the Atom looks like some sort of "sci-fi toy car". You would look kind of goofy driving that thing around town...

I doubt any V8 would fit in there (maybe a really small V8, like Ferrari's 3.0L V8 in the F40). 6 banger sounds good. Their current Toyota motor works for them though.

I've seen many pictures and read alot about that car. A while ago though, same boat as I can't remember where I saw it. Crazy car though, your right about the twin turbo audi motor.

A company called "forcefed" I believe is building 400hp + Elise's with superchargering the toyota engine. There is also a company who is changing out the yota motors for Honda engines. The car is a great foundation for any power mods.

Don't they do that for the S versions in Europe? I know the US doesn't get them.

A kid at my school got a white one (for his 16th birthday I assume). It is unfortunate because he can't drive it. He tried to show it off in front of a group of us and stalled the engine!
