Recall Work

I am taking my car in next week for an oil change and the dealer insists on doing the recent recall (ECU flash). I have read all the past posts on this, but wanted to know if anyone has any new info regarding whether or not to do it.

Thanks,
George.

I took my car in recently for the intercooler pump and tranny jerk. I got the new pump, the tanny still jerks and I think they did the recall. Now when I start the car, the rpm's jump up and stay higher for a while. When I stop at a signal the car shakes, noticably. I am assuming the recall work was done because I've read that those are many of the symptoms of the recall. I don't see any way around it though. The dealers are directed to do it.

Good luck.

Shake

Scott,

Thanks. I noticed that mine sometimes has a little shake when stopped at a light. Nothing major, but noticable.

Did you feel you lost power after the recall?

George.

Give this link a read.. Many people with your problem after the recall have used the ECU reset and it has fixed the problem.

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ight=ecu+reset

Or check out this one.. It has lots of info for your situation..

George,

I have not noticed a loss of power. The new coolant pump restored so much power that I would not know if the recall had any effect. When the car is moving, it is really moving well. The recall seems to just affect the idle the most.

Mark,

I followed that thread for a long time and resisted the recall as long as possible. I have done the ECU reset since and had the dealer do more work on the tranny jerk . They reset the adaptation values also. The car still does what I described earlier.

Scott, that sucks man.. I have a little shake when decelerating at a stop light.. I can't figure out how the ECU would have anything to do with it?? Oh well.. it's not bad and rarely happens..

Are you sure you did the ECU reset right.. I was doing it wrong at first.. I didn't have my key turned far enough..

Yeah, I'm sure I'm doing it correctly. I've done it dozens of times, each time giving me great throttle response and crisper shifts. The shake is at an idle, at a signal. I can live with it but would prefer not to. I can't live with the crappy transmission jerk. It goes back next week for that one.

Recently, a truck picked up a rock and put a small crack in my windshield while on the freeway. I've heard that I have to go to the dealer to get replacement glass, or risk problems with COMAND Nav and/or HomeLink. Thing is, I don't want them to perform the recall while they have my car. Is it possible to demand that they NOT perform the recall service?

It's no longer under warranty. I will probably just start by asking that they not do anything but the glass, and find out how they reply.

Take the car in NOW!

I would take it in now! I just picked mine up last night and they COULD NOT do the recall. Apparently there is a relay that they need to change out as well as doing the ECU flash and there are NO relays currently in the US. So the dealer said we would have to reschedule, but they don't know when it would be. My service representative did not know what the relay was for, but I am assuming it is for the IC pump, correct?

On a seperate note, I got my wheels & tires balanced yesterday and then drove the car out to a meeting. Parked the car and was in the meeting for a couple of hours. After the meeting, I start off heading home and drove it about 50 feet when I noticed the car felt like both front wheels were flat. I get out and check and noticed big clumps of tar stuck to both front wheels. I peel off as much as possible and then limped home about 12 miles. I get home and start peeling it off and it pulls some of the tire with it. Any suggestions on how to remove as much of this as possible without damaging the tire? Should I just get out and drive it till it melts off? Anything like this ever happen to any of you?

I am tempted to contact the property management company, but I doubt they can be held responsible for the 100+ degree temps we are having!!

George.
