Chanigng the alarm to chirp

I had a loaner C280 ealier this week and noticed that when activating the alarm, the horn chirps, like a normal car. Mine does not do that, it only flashes the lights. I went through the manual and could not find a way to change the setting to chirp and flash lights. Is it possible on a C32?

Thanks,
George.

Yes but it can only be done by a garage or Steve (MBenzNL) as you need access to an SDS (Mercedes diagnostics system) to change the setting (to Netherlands I think), you will also loose the panic button on your key.

Take it to the dealer and ask them to set your rear SAM to the Netherlands setting.

I don't think your panic button will be disabled unless they do something wrong..

lol..

I think he/she was trying to drop a hint to search the forum..

No, I think its more all Mercedes.. All of the loaner C classes I have used don't chirp and neither do any of my friends cars.. S and E classes.. I think you got a loaner where someone was experimenting or something..

I just had an 06 C230 loaner last week and it, too, chirped. I thought this was somthing MB changed recently. I have to believe that if it is possible, the dealer does have to it. I've tried finding a DIY method to no avail.

Damn creative wit!!! I did a search, but came up with nothing, hence the post!!!

The loaner I had was also an '06, so maybe their are changing their way. Its no big deal, but it would be nice!!

Thanks,
g3.

The correct term for search is "netherlands setting".

Thanks!! That is just what I was thinking when I did my search (just a hint of sarcasm there)!!! Search function does me no good if I don't know the specific terminology!!

Everyone refers to it a "chirp" but my C55 came back from the dealer early this year with a "beep". It is very quiet. Beeps 3 times when locking, and once when unlock. Since it is so quiet, I did not ask them how they did it or ask them to remove it. If it chirped loudly like a lot of cars, I would disengage it.

No beep when you open the trunk. It sounds similar to the beep of the Lexus alarm.

Depends on your relationship with the dealer. I got it done for free while a few people in the forum had to pay.

I can't give up the panic button. I was looking for my car in a garage today, and just hit panic, and BAM, the car is *that* way

The panic button should still work if they do it right.

There are two dealers that I use in the San Diego area. One of them would do it this for free MB of Escondido, the other MB of San Diego would charge.. I really don't like MB of San Diego service but I usually get at least a 25% discount on parts..

He is right, no beep when open the trunk. What about the sound, do you guys actually have a loud chirp, or more like I described (very quiet beeps)?
