Res just basically makes the car have less of an exhaust note. By removing it you will get a louder sounding exhaust. It has nothing to do with emmisions or inspection I beileve. I did read something where it provides a little back pressure but with a FI motor that does not matter as much as it would with a NA motor.

C32 you should not get any lights.

Here is a good link that explains it and provides some sound clips. Sounds like no ill effects to this mod. Plus you will loose about 15 pounds of weight .

Did it on my C32 and it was the best $50 I've spent. A little louder and dropped 10-15lbs also. There will be no warning signs or error codes that show up..

Just got my resonator removed this morning and i noticed on the drive back my idleing was slightly off... currently i'm set to comfort mode and it tends to hold 3rd gear as opposed to shifting to 4th like usually did... has any one experienced this otherwise its probably just in my head...

sound is amazing in low rpm by the way

It's all in your head.

Seriously, it is just a muffler. Do an ECU reset and see what happens.

Question

Sorry to bring out an old thread but better then a new one...

I was thinking of the Resonator and Secondary Cats delete...

1. Is there a chance a CEL will lightup?
2. Where is good but cheap place to order the SS sleeves to cover the Resonator and Secondary Cats?
3. Does anyone have a sound clip of this setup done?
4. Does anyone use these to replace primaries and how are they...any CELs? http://www.flowmonster.com/

i can only answer question 1- you shouldn't get any CEL's because i don't think there are any o2 sensors on the secondary cats.

there are no o2 sensors monitoring the secondary cats, only the primary ones. I'd say stick to stock primary ones, unless they are damaged and are giving you a CEL about them. You can swap the secondary pipes for straight pipes with no problems. Just beware, it will sound like a monster every time you drive under a bridge hehe!

Here, I've finally figured out hot to post stuff. Heres a couple of links on how my exhaust sounds. Stock AMG muffler, no resonator, no secondary cats.
enjoy!

That thread has all the info / comments... It should be sticky

Just do it boys and girl.. Drive it around for couple days and if ANYTHING (highly doubt) goes wrong or don't like the sound, just weld it back on..

I wouldn't recommend removing 2nd cat or primary cats.. I have a friend with SLK55 with both removed and it sounds like a Harley and way too f'in loud..... Some may like it but it sounds way too much like a mustang...Which i really hate...

Dammit, Victor! Just get off of your butt and go get your resonator deleted, once and for all! You've been dinking with this for well over a year now. It is not brain surgery and, as stated already, it is easily put back.

Screw the secondary cat delete.

With the resonator gone, you will get some sweet sound without being obnoxiously loud, no worries about CEL's, you'll still be 50-state legal and you won't spent much to do it.

Go! Now.

I am going to do the resonator delete but thinking on shaving more weight and getting rid of the Secondary cats to...I had my car weighed at 3640lbs with between 1/2-3/4 full gas so wanted to do it to bring weight to under 3600lbs...see my dilema?

the cats don't weight much. Have a dump and skip a meal. I got rid of them for 2 reasons, one was I wanted a little more growl from the beast, second, keep the stock cats from going bad. if the primary's weren't such a biatch to get to, I would have swapped those with some Random Tech cats and removed the error code through the computer, but thats too much hassle. Plus if it were any louder, it would be raspy as $h!t.

Its much easier to drop car weight then mine(I love food and weigh like 196lbs)...Optima battery did drop like 20 or so lbs but adding the amps and all the heavier wiring didn't help it most likely added what I lost and added a little more but above the rear tires...

My Sub is removable which I do remove it for track time...

If there was a visual inspection, then no. I'm not sure if they has changed the testing procedure in cali yet, but here the "sniffer" test has been replaced by the OBD2 port to scan the diagnostics, I passed with flying colors.

Since i have all 4 cats plus the resonator removed i was thinking of replacing my primarys with similar cats. My 2 worries to it is as follows...

1. As in one of my previous threads someone had stated that the primary cats sit very close to the headers and those aftermarket cats may get destroyed by the heat. Which means i may have to go with ceramic cats but those are a bit harder to find.

2. O2 sensors, from what i can see on this diagram the cat on the passenger side has an 02 sensor directly next to the cat and im not sure how the exhaust shop will put the cat on that may or may not work with the sensor there.

I have read that it is possible to lose low-end power with the res and secondary cat delete because of the lackof back pressure, anyone have any input?

you might be able to debate that with the cats- but not the resonator. those things don't really restrict flow.
