Vibration....

I took my car in for unusual vibration in P and D. The service advisor was able to feel the vibration via holding the door while it was open. However, the tech said that's not the right way to check. I told him I feel vibration through the steering wheel as well when the car is in D. Well, they found nothing wrong with my car after their diagnostic test. No crack in motor mounts, etc, They advise me that this is normal for AMG V8's. Anyhow, during my service visit, they loaned me a 07 C280 and didn't feel any vibration at all. Is this normal on C55? My car is 06 with only 5600 miles. Any help will be great.

Our ML55 with virtually the same engine does have a vibration at idle as well. It's definitely not as smooth as other V8's in it's class, although I dont see why the 5.4 AMG V8 should be any less smooth that the 4.3 or 5.0's. One of the motor mounts collapsed a while back, but theres still some amount of vibration, you can definitely tell when the engine is on...

AMG engine will always be a little rougher at idle than a non AMG engine due to the fact that they use larger injectors to flow more fuel at high rpms.

Basicly a non amg engine will have the injectors operating for approx 3.5-4.0ms at idle while AMG engine will generally operate for 2-2.5ms at idle.

Basicly they are operating for such a sort period that they give a slightly rougher idle, also AMG cams are a little more aggreive which doesn't help.

Ask anyone with a jap turbo engine with high flow injectors how it idles and they will tell you the same thing

They most likely use a more radical cam shaft in the AMG and that also could contribute to the rough idle.

Thanks for your input guys but not only I feel the vibration in my steering wheel...I feel my car stutter off and on...like it needs a tune up.or something Also, when I checked my idle it was at 500 rpm, it seems a bit low to me.

My c32 does the same thing. I just noticed it the last few days but did not pay too much attention to the car before so it might have been there all along. I hope you guys are right. Anyway the vibration is nothing like my modified r32GTR

CLK, R350
rough idle

My E55 (identical motor) has the same irregular vibration, you can see the motor shake a lil when it is in park, but as of now no codes or CEL. My independent mechanic (X-MB tech)checked the motor mounts and spark plugs. He says its normal for AMG motors!
