Tiresssssssss

OK would like your guys/gals feedback on these and only these 3 specific Tires...

1) Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position

2) Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

or
3) Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

I know the pricing on all three and the michelins are the higher price by 200 dollars..The Goodyears and Bridgestones are very close in price.

I am curious about the Pole Position heard good things but would like some more info..

Thanx

PS I don't let my car see snow..

In my opinion the Michelin PS2's suck big time. The have very little tread depth. I went through my entire set, front and rears in about 12k miles.. $1200 bucks for 12k miles.. They were great at first, but after about 9k miles they had very little grip left..

I just got a set of Nexen 3000's.. The whole set was under $600 installed. I think they are great so far.. the tread is much thicker and the tread pattern looks pretty nice! I went cheap because I might get 19's at some point, but I am very pleased with these so far.. quiet, and seem to grip awesome..

I would favor the Goodyear based on the "buzz" I've heard recently. The Pole Position was the hot tire 2 or 3 years ago, and the PS2 is known primarily for being expensive.

PS: When taking advice of others, make sure you keep in mind YOUR particular preferences. Some people just want a wide tire that keeps the rim from rubbing on the ground. Most people want a tire that is quiet, lasts a long time, and provides decent grip in all conditions. Others (like me) want a tire that won't croak when driven on a track at high speeds over lengthy periods of time. The PS2, for example, has thin tread depth, which means it won't last long, but it's much more trackworthy than a deep tread tire.

I'm satisfied w/ Potenza S03 Pole. It's quite loud after 8K or so.... but the grip is good. Never tried PS2.

I have used both Bridgestone and Michelin.

Here is what I think:

Bridgestone RE050A-PP: Soft compound and strong side wall, it's also quite heavy. So what you get is a very comfortable ride, good performance at curves, but heavier handling. Treads last until end of its life.

Michelin PS2: Light and strong compound. Like previous poster said, the tread is useless towards end of it life, so you'l end up changing them before you hit the tread indicator.

Both tires are asymetrical and non-directional with a center rib and wide grooves and variable sie blocks. So the tread designs are very similar.

S03 is their older design, the treads do not have variable block size to modulate the high frequency peaks. You should try the new RE050A-PP.

I'm selling the car.... the S03's are indeed a bit loud at low speed (10-20mph) even though there are still plenty treads remaining (I think 5-7K of hard driving).

My new E still has original contis (20-30% treads remaining after 16K... a strong evidence this car was quite babied by previous owner ).

It will be couple months before I need a new set of tires.... but I would certainly consider RE050 given my experience w/ S03. We'll see...

I agree with all the oother posts, and that is DON"T BUY THE PS2

They are terriable!!!! I told the story before about my M being beaten by my Mustang because of the lousy PS2's.

Go for the GS-D3's YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED!!!

I love my Goodyear's. They are quiet and feel really good on the road. Haven't had them long so I can't comment on the treadwear...

I have had 3 sets of GD-D3's on different MB's and the same thing happens to each set. The tire is very smooth and quiet when new but at say half worn the tires becomes INSANELY loud and it will rumble to no end a speeds between 30 and 5 mph. It was so bad with my last set of a W211 E500 that I thought the car and blown out both front wheel bearings.

It was horrible that even an older family member commented the car sounded broken.

PS2's fixed the sound isshe but yes the grip does go away with time.

My next set of tires will be the RE050A PP for sure. I hear great things about it.

This happens to many brands of tire, as tires age, the rubber hardens. I believe the Bridgestone consists of two different compounds, as the tire wears out, the new compound is exposed, maintaining grip and comfort.

Ya i have heard good things about the New Bridge..PP.. the R's? how new are they because i don't see many reviews..I think I have seen about 100 reviews for the new PP compared to several thousands to the Goodyear.

With some mags this new PP is number one compared to a close Goodyear.

i've only tried the Goodyear Eagle gs-d3 f1 and they are pretty good tires, quiet and great traction. i think i'm going to try the Bridgestone re050a PP next, i've heard great reviews on these tires.

u can't go wrong w/ anyone of the 3 tires. here's a very good survey for u:

just realized that i can't get the Bridgestone R050A PP b/c they only have 275-30-19 and not 265-30-19

why don't they make 265s for 19in wheels?

Wierd, I have PS2s and I think they're great as they made a hugh difference when I changed the tires - I can actually accelerate without the TCS cutting in, I am however comparing them to whatever the OEM tires that came with the car .

How many miles have you used them for? Mine only lasted 10-12k miles.

I am not understanding why you guys are surprised that high-performance tires are lasting 10k miles.
That's a dream to me -- and I've got an LS430. I have Dunlop Sport 5000's and I hit about 15k maaaaybe.

Edit: My dad had PS A/S's and he ran through them like butter -- and he's a very conservative driver.

Here, Here

There is always a price for perfrormance
Namely HIGH wear.

On my stang usual wear was about 7-8k, but this was EXTREME abuse.

Best tire on it were OLD Goodyear GSC's. They still make them, but they are not competative anymore.

12K for GREAT performance is a SMALL price to pay

See yeah

Well.. $1300 seems expensive since they only last a year. My new set was less than 600 and I am happy so far. I wouldn't care if they last only a year for that price..

I'm not sure as I don't do that many miles (I have a short commute), I'd guess ~5K, I paid $500 for two rear tires in the Bay Area so $1300 does seem high (I'd hope that the front ones are cheaper!)

$1300 is TOOOOOOO much

can you say Tirerack.com

By the way, there are cheap tires out there that work good, ie kumoh's yok's, etc. All can be had for around $100 a tire.
As the old saying goes, speed is just a question of money, How fast do you want to go$$$$$$$

See yeah
