Question about C32 Exhaust

My question is: is the cat. convertor inside of the muffler or attached to it? Or is it a seperate peice altogether?

Here's the scenario: 1 month ago I had my cat. convertor replaced (a brand new one) and I just brought a C32 muffler that I'm going to be installing; therefore, if the cat. convertor is inside of the muffler (or attached) I'll feel kind of bad knowing that I'm losing a brand new part (unless of course it can be removed from my C320 muffler and inserted into the C32 muffler with no issues); however, if it's not part of the muffler then I'll feel relieved that the used C32 muffler won't intervene with my new part (cat. convertor).

Hopefully some of you guys know...

None of the 4 cats are part of the muffler

Thanks jgsx! Great, so I'll be replacing my old muffler with the C32 one.

By the way, does anybody want to speculate how much horsepower the exhaust might give my car? Or does it not even give any?

Really? That sucks. The the C32 doesn't benefit at all from it's exhaust system? Then why the hell is is so expensive - several hundred more than a normal C-Class exhaust.

Oh, one last important question -- the C32 Rear-AMG Bumper, is it the same as the 2005+ C-Class Sports Sedans with AMG bumpers? Cause some of your pictures show a wider cutout for the exhaust tips and it's making me worried that the exhaust w/ AMG tips won't fit through my bumper.

Well I would assume that the AMG exhaust costs more than the standard C-class exhaust because it says AMG on it. I'd think that the AMG exhaust performs better than the C-class exhaust. If you put a standard C exhaust on an AMG, there'd probably be a performance hit. So far, it doesn't seem like the AMG exhaust is a restriction on C32s, even modified ones.

It's not like we haven't tried either. I've spent $2000 on my exhaust project and after it was all said and done, all I have is sound.

I recently sold the Eisenmann race exhaust and put the AMG one back on instead. I have 100 cell racing cats, evo headers, and shiny SS piping connecting everything. The car sounds MEAN - even with the AMG exhaust, but I don't think it made any power.

Your bumper probably has a round cut out where the AMG cut out is wider and more rectangle shaped. It will probably fit, but might look a little awkward.

Oh okay. Yeah, I can see your point on it taking a performance hit if you replaced the muffler. I guess it doesn't really add power, just keeps it.

Well, will my car sound any different with the AMG exhaust - a lot of people before were telling me to delete the resonator of my C320 Exhaust, but I'm hoping the C32 exhaust will give it a much better sound. I know obviously when you guys rev your car, you also get to hear that Supercharged Engine growl, whereas my car sounds like a normal luxury sedan - nothing special, so will the exhaust give me a little 'rrrrww'..?? Or do I have to also delete the resonator off the C32 muffler?

AMG-Jerry - Did you add dual exhaust ends like the C55?

As you can tell I'm so excited about this exhaust! 1 more day.

Oh really? Sh#t!

I asked and asked and people said it was the same bumper, so I figured it'd fit. Yeah, my bumper has the round cut out. Hmm... I really don't want to trim the bumper, I guess I'll see what happens after the installation on Saturday. I'll post pics, unless it looks retarded, then I'll hide out from the forum for a little while.

They lied. Just the exhaust tips, otherwise standard C-Class exhaust.

And we've done many tests on this forum and the 2006 C-Class and 2007 C-Class sound exactly the same (search for the thread there are sound clips). I've also heard the car at the dealership as well, it's identical. I had purchased the AMG tips (but didn't install them), sale pending!

LOL! Yeah, I guess you're pushing your car much harder! Which is good, it was made to take that treatment. I'm curious to see or rather hear, how the AMG exhaust will sound. Hmmm... this is a pretty long day!

OK Bad News! The C-Class (C230, C320, C350) AMG Bumper is not the same as the C32 AMG Bumper. The C32 AMG bumper has a wider cutout for the dual exhaust tips. Therefore, today when I went to install my C32 muffler, needless to say the tips were not about to fit, so I may have to trim/cut the bumper.

I stopped by Mercedes-Benz Manhattan and it looks like the 2007 C-Class rear bumper is trimmed (wasn't made specially for the dual tips). When comparing the 07 to say an 06, you'll notice the cutout on the '06 is smoother and curves inwards, whereas the '07 doesn't.

Anyway, gonna take the car to a body shop on Monday and have it trimmed a little. Day didn't turn out so bad, I still got to install my 2005+ Mirror Blinkers.
