well judging by your first post you made in the w203 thread, you arent well respected already. but if you are actually serious and arent a spammer, or hater of any kind. ill give you an answer. i liek audis..they are cool. but to be honest, what do i know. i own 3 mbs and never owned an audi. i think....'militant grunt' is an audi fan, since he has one. ask him about what he thinks.. hope it kinda points u in the right direction..and if you arent a spammer, or banned person: welcome to the board!

No such thing as a simple question on these boards. Especially when your third post on the board is being an ***.

Question c55 vs. Audi S4 vs. 335i. Which one is best?

Simple question guys. Looking for a performance oriented small sedan. All these cars are similar yet very different at the same time. Does anybody have any first hand experience with any of these cars in comparision tothe c55? I should tell you that i am a somewhat new driver so i want something that is going to be somewhat managable. i am by no means a bad driver just a new driver. TIA!

Well what are you using the car for? You've got a pretty broad range there. Out of those 3, if money wasn't an option, I'd get the C55. 335i gets pretty good gas mileage though. Don't know much about the Audi, it's all wheel drive, and less hp than the other 2, but can be tuned up easily.

Well can you drive a manual car? Are you on a tight (somewhat) budget? What characteristics do you enjoy in a car (torque, straightline perf., handling, etc.)? Answer these questions and you will find the answer.

ah...can you read my sig? My guess is everyone here could have purchased a BMW or Audi and chose a C32/55. Spending the cash is a sure fire way to know someone's opinion.

Ok sorry guys here is some clairfication. I would like to spend something in the 45k range, so i could get a new 335i, and a slightly used S4 and (obviosly) and used c55. I think that if i went with the S4 or 335i i would probably get a stick...but that is not a huge priority for me. Where i live there are some fairly quick (50 mph limit) 2 lane curvy roads so i would enjoy pushing the car through there. I also want a highway burner..all of which cars should do pretty well there. There are also a lot of easy mods for he 335i that put out a lot of power. Are there any such mods for the c55?

Basically, i want a powerful car that handles like its on rails through moderate twisties (not looking for a track car). Anything else i missed feel free to ask. Thanks a ton!

I favor C55 I've driven 2007 S4 but not 335i yet.

Performance wise, stock to stock, C55 should be the fastest. 1/4 should be low to mid 13's @ 110ish (vs. mid to high 13's @ 105ish for 335i & S4). Cannot comment on 335i, but S4 is higher rev engine than C55... so it feels (and it is) slower.

But if you want to drive one on snow, then no brainer - S4. If you want to mod, 335i due to F/I.

Handling: I think it should be similar.... C55 has a refined suspension that I believe match the BMW's well known handling.

Style: C55 or S4.... BMW's bangle edition is not my cup of tea.

Anyway, if at the end you decide to buy C55, I have one for sale

I know i wish i could but there are no c55's in my area. i have driven the S4 before but sometimes it feels pretty heavy and cumbersome. I have also not had a chance to drive a 335i with a stick. I know the best way to find out is to drive them but i value other peoples opionions alot as well.

cheers

Damn....you car is HOT. Thanks for the honest response as well, i really appreciate it. On a side note, how reliable are the c55's? say i find one with around 15k miles on the clock and i average about 12k a year, will i have any problems keeping the car for 3 years or so? From what i've read the S4's are pretty rock solid in terms of reliability and the 335i has already proven itself to be pretty flakey

02 Audi S4... hoping to get an AMG soon
I don't think the 335 has been out long enough to really be able to tell how much reliability there is with modding. I've heard of some issues might be brewing with modding those cars. Something to do with the turbos being really really small and in a really odd configuration (location). I really think it's just too new to know yet.

It does seem every teenage girl around here in dallas has one though.

I've always been partial to Audi's but I'm eyeing the C class now. The audi is definitely a heavier car but feels sure footed in any condition God can throw at you.

It's all about what YOU want... but posting on a mercedes board is going to get you a mercedes slant same as if you posted this on any other respective brand site. No one likes to admit they bought an inferior car.

C55 is very solid.... No problem for me and lots of other members here. It's also proven by my W210 E55 (same base engine)... no problems after 70K+ miles. But again, engine's life depends on how you use and maintain it. Always check maintenance history and warranty claims when you buy used cars. Avoid half-lemon car

S4, like any other Audi, is going to have all interior parts rattled. I'm not sure about newer S4 but older S4 and regular audi has lots of cosmetic problems.... engine wise, only the 2.7T S4 that I've heard lots of problems w/ the turbos.

Depreciation is also a killer in S4.... BMW is the best, at least in CA.

BTW: The price of my C55 is negotiable... PM me if you're interested and we'll talk.

Wink

I've owned 2 BMW's.

My wife currently drives a 2004 A4 (not S4), quattro.

And I just bought the C55.

My opinion is this: I want my wife in the Audi. It is an incredible car for her. Corners like a cat on carpet. I looked hard at the S4 - but bought the C55 on price because of end of model run....

We both liked driving the BMW's. There is just something about driving them, but in general they are underpowered (except 335 and M3). Not too crazy about the interior of the BMW's. I looked really hard at a used M3 in the last 60 days. Personally, I would do the M3 over the 335. I am not into turbo lag.

Now the C55 - has the best interior of all 3 cars. I've never owned a car with this much HP and Torque, so it is kind of taking some getting used to. It's hard to accelerate without ripping the tires - that is new to me since you cannot even squeak the tires on the A4.

So far, I've got to say that I like the C55 the best. Of course, the BMW's I've owned weren't 335's, and the A4 is not an S4.

Best of both worlds: Put the Mrs in the S4 and get the C55. I like the engine in the M3 but the interior of the C55 wins, + you get an extra 30 HP.

But any of the three will give you what you are probably looking for....
