arghh battery messed everything up. please help.

2001 C240

my battery was completely dead after being in europe and not driving my car for 5 weeks...

yesterday the alarm was going off, but a much less loud alarm...

I disconnected the battery and it was still going off...

I reconnected the battery and with the new battery used jumper cables, as soon as i connected the last cable, the real alarm went off, that's when i used the key fob to lock and unlock the doors, disabling all alarms...

then i changed the battery

after a few minutes, the car cranked

but it says display faulty, visit workshop...

the auto windows didn't work, so i lowered all of them, help them down for two seconds after they were lowered, and then they worked, same with the sun roof, the CD player didn't work, ejected the cartridge, and now it works...

turned the wheel to the left and right multiple times, no go, still have the error messages...

I got everything to work, except for the back sun blocker, turn signals, emergency flashers....stuff like that...

anyone have a clue what I can do?

besides getting raped at the Stealership?

thanks

first thing to check is the fuses...

next step is to have the rear SAM checked out...if you can find someone with the star diagnostic system besides the dealership, then you can find out very quickly if it is the rear SAM or not...but my guess is that it probably is going to be that from the symptoms you are describing...

you could always order one online and replace it yourself if it doesn't turn out to be just some blown fuses...

so I need to check the fuses on the driver's side door, and under the hood?

and if they all check out, then buy a SAM?

how much are they?

can you recommend a site?

thanks

take your key out of your remote...there is a key hole next to the trunk lever...turn it to the left all the way then pull the trunk lever...it should open

After a battery disconnect, a few things are expected to not work correctly and there is a procedure in the manual on how to reset or sync stuff (like auto window, sunroof, etc.). Also, there is a sticky related to this in the W203 forum:

it isn't likely that the fuse(s) will blow simply because of a dead battery....
that is, unless the charge/jump/boost produced quite a surge for some
reason. another thought - just disconnect the battery again and wait
a few mins and hook up again. perhaps the car just hocked a lugee and
subsequent disconnect will jog it loose. anecdotal, but it is a proven
technique once in a while. of course, you'd have to deal with the memory
feature settings again

Not sure whether this would work for you.... and not that I concur... but would be the easiest way out...

Put the old (dead) battery back in the car.... call 1-800-4-MERCEDES, tell them that your battery is completely dead. A technician will come and replace the battery.... let him handle all the reset and everything. Calling the roadside assistance is a lot cheaper than going to the dealer as they won't charge you at all for labor.

I got my E's battery replaced for only $150.... while at the dealer, I was quoted $225 ($150 for battery + $75 for labor ). Plus, they do it at your house....

Good luck.

I have similar problems..

I had pep boys install a new battery and after the install the "SRS" light came on.. and now I have an error message.

everything works and I do have a turn signal light error and license plate light error as well.

car is running fine... except for those errors.

i have been to lazy to look around for the problem.. but I guess its time.

I'll post my findings...
