It seems that a lot of those things are definitely not putting out their rated horsepower....with 420 horses, it should be trapping at 110, not 106. Bummer...

0-60 is very impressive but, as mentioned the 1/4 is crap. I guess the heavy car and only 317tq show more there.
I love their navigation/stereo on that though! SC memory slot, DVD, MP3 and all the other standard goodies. Others should follow suit.

The horspower figure of 420 is true, trust me, I've ran into two and been destroyed both times.

Also, check on the audi forum- they are running in the 12s at 110/111

Audi S4 Avant and BMW X5 4.4
they run anywhere from 12.8 (best) to 13.1 on the average and trap in the 106-109 range. I have not seen anyone with a B7 RS4 hit the strip and trapped 110 or higher yet (only in the magazines). They are making the advertised 420 HP, but also weigh 3900 lbs, and with only TQ in the lo 300's.....that is no enough to get them to the 1/4 marker at fast speeds. They are pretty decent on the highway though.....from rolls, like 80 and up as the V8 and FSI helps there...

A 3900 pound car with a 170 pound driver and 420 crank horsepower should trap at 110 mph. I double checked the math, and this equation works like a champ. Those testers weren't putting out anywhere near 420 horsepower to be trapping at 106; hell, E39 M5's put out 400 even and weighed 4050 pounds, but trapped in the 107.x-108 range....something was wrong with the testers, or Audi's got some build issues (or is overrating their cars).

Hey bro! did you see my RS4 kill? a few months back, they are pretty EZ from a roll, he got up to triple digits w/me but I repeatedly had to lift the throttle (only lane open was right behind him) when traffic lifted, I destroyed him

maybe the heat (looks hot but hey its USA so always blistering) and the fact that it wasnt run in had an effect ? what preassure where the tyres at ? where the tyres scrubbed properly beig new etc.. 106 1/4 and 0-60 in 4.2 secs is bloody impressive for a normal road car.

My two cents:

1 cent: Anything that happens in a street race has questionable validity. Unskilled drivers, imperfect situations, unknown modifications.

1 cent: Anyone who buys (or doesn't buy) an RS4 based on 1/4 mile time is better off with a GTO. The proper measure is Nurbergring lap times.

Bonus cent: AWD creates a weight penalty, so all other things being equal, the 2WD car will outrun the AWD car -- unless it's raining, and then the tide turns heavily.

If they'd have come in at their originally-advertised weight, which as I recall was in the 3600-3700 pound range, it would've helped! And definitely, some of these things (at least the testers!!) seem to be down about 30-40 horseower from spec....still, it is a **** on the track from the numbers i"ve seen. Audi has definitely made huge strides with the last few iterations...now they just need to hire some better marketing people to get more brand recognition!!!

What they need is a blower or a pair of turbos on that thing.

MTM has the K540 which takes a cue from the W211 E55 with a Lysholm blower and integrated intercooler, all for a cool $20,000 on top of the car's already stupendous $70k sticker. Now we're in M5/63 territory.

Here's another one: E46 M3 CSL .vs. RS4 Avant
http://youtube.com/watch?v=MW4yuOu7BkM

... most of my friends are crazy about the RS4. I like them but I'd rather have the E92 M3 or a CLK63 especially since they are not cheaper anyway.. ok especially the M3.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=UOwHOPtrLNo - I love this car.. http://www.autojunk.nl/clips/view/130287

New RS4 needs to loose some weight, but overall the car is hot. I love the instrument panels, very nice. As far is the price goes, $68K Humm......maybe I'll just wait for the next Skyline GT-R to arrive in 2008.

MTM kit is up to over 550 HP now.......it does look attractive, but like you said, the $20+k tag isn't

not that I care much......but comparing the lightest version of the E46 M3 (CSL) vs the heaviest version of the RS4 (Avant) is wrong......imho
