Which Is Faster C32 Or E55

I have an E55 and was wondering which was faster, the C32 or E55. Originally, I was going to get the C32, but I needed the additional room offered by the E55. I actually think the C32 is faster. But, I was curious as to what you guys/gals thought.

C32
I own a C32 and had a test drive with the new SL55 wich comes with more or less the same engine as the new E55.
Going from 0-100 kmh the E55 will be slightly faster than the C32. However the E55 will blow away the C32 on the highway that is for sure The E55 comes with +- 470 HP and +- 600 Nm torque. I guess the C32 would have the edge on a race track due to its better weight.

I tried a trade in (new E55) but I would loose too much for a 6 month old car.

Hmmm

Well according to magazine tests from Car & Driver, Automobile etc. they say they are basically equal. Of course 1/4 mile, 0-60 times vary but for the most part they are very similar. The extra torque will make the E55 feel faster. People say that the C32 is different to drive because you dont realize how fast you are going until you look at your speedo. The C32 just isnt doesnt have the tourqe that pushes you back in your seat. Dont get me wrong it is a great car!

Oh yeah I have heard mostly the C32 is faster, despite what magazines say!

IMO

Are we comparing the C32 with the current E55 running on the US streets? In that case I think C32 is quicker (but not necessarily faster). The 0-60 record for stock C32 was something like 4.7 (i saw it somewhere on the net); whereas E55's fastest was 5.0 to 60mph. I am not sure about the top speed of these two w/ limiters removed, so no comment on that. However, if we were to compare the new E55, there is no competition for it. WIth 476hp, 516 ft-lb and a lighter body than SL55AMG, it'll hit 60mph in 4.6s if not quicker. Some crazy stuff that MB is putting up in the market for the next year or two. I'd like to see what BMW'll do with there machines....

Speaking of BMW, how come their Z4 and the upcoming 5 series are so freaking ugly. Does it have something to do w/ BMW's chairman being a female?

If you are talking about the w210 E55, the C32 is suppose to be faster. Mercedes lists 0-60 as 5.4 sec for the E55 and 4.9 sec for the C32. But the reality seems to be the cars are very close, and it depends on your given car. Most of the Car Mags tested the E55's 0-60 in the 4.8-5.1 secs range. These same Car Mags got about the same results for the C32. The E55's 391 torque factor seems to make up for it's larger weight.

I'm no drag racer, but I can get consistent 0-60 runs in the 5.0-5.1 sec range with my car. With a perfect launch, I think I would be in the 4.XX range. Now the new w211 E55 will no doubt be faster than the C32, expect 0-60 in under 4.5 secs easily. Mercedes rates the new E55 as 0-62mph in 4.7 secs. The SL55 was already clocked at 4.3 secs in Europe.

The C32 is faster, just by weight to HP ratio. Same HP roughly and less weight. Less weight wins. I am talking about the 210 vs. the 203 though, the 211 may be fater than the C32.

When the SLK32 came out it was suposed to be the fastest factory car to date.

Sorry everybody. I was trying to compare the C32 with the W210 E55. I started this thread, b/c I test drove a C32 at the dealer and it seemed faster (at least to me) and, thus, started to second guess myself about the C32.

We tested C32 vs E46M3 & read articles of M3 vs W208/CLK55
0~150 mph data of M3,E55,CLK55
To sum-up C32 is faster while those 5.5 V8 are just a step behind.

"Feel" is not accuracy, the final ratio of C32 vs V8 is 3.06 vs 2.82, the larger the ratio, the stronger the feel of fast.
I myself always feel the C32 is faster (responsive)
but the V8 kompressor blow the C32 away SMOOTHLY
inside the car, I mistake the actual speed on a V8 kompressor
can not feel quick but it's amazing fast than C32 does.

The C32 is significantly faster than the W210 E55; the W211 E55 is in a whole other league than the C32.

Man too bad the new e55 is going to stomp a mudhole in a c32's ***. I was going to enjoy smoking old guys with the whole family in the car. Damnit.... Mercedes should up the hp in the c32 and not wait for pressure from bmw and audi to do it, they should be applying the boot right on the m3's throat.

The E55 and C32 are in a completely different league, aswell as completely different price ranges.

Mercedes-Benz will not increase the horsepower on the C32 because they do not want it to cut into sales of the E55, an exception to this is if the rumors we have been hearing are true, the 2004 C32 AMG will have the new 3.5L engine, so we can assume the horsepower would increase.

Also, the E55 is going to cost a lot more than the late W210 E55.

Hi Shine,
How did the test go with the C32 vs M3 E46? Is the M3 with or without SMG? I raced my buddy's stick a few weeks ago and beat him about 4-5 car length to 110 mph.

av2, yes the same stick.
There's discussion in early thread "MKB-C32 update"
These two kings fight each other from 40~170 mph on a straight open road.
They're even !

Agreed about the 2 different leagues. However, putting the c32 at 400 hp would definitely not cut into e55 sales as the e55 would still have almost a 100 hp advantage. For now, the c32 has the hp edge over everyone, which is why i love it so much

Yup, I wouldn't be surprised if they bumped the horsepower up to around 400 if they did use the new 3.5L engine. It is still just a rumor though.

in my words "who cares, they're all AMGs!!"

no questions what ever comes out later will often be faster than the older cars. So, in order W210 E55, W203 C32, W211 E55.

don't forget the NEW S55, and CL55 will employe the V8 kompressor that up the power to 490hps. They'll both be faster than the C32 as well. oh yeah, and the new twin-turbo S600 too.

i guess i'll stay away from the big boys in the future.

Porsche Turbo Stage 4, Cayenne S ... gone C43, C32, ML55 & Ducati 999.
Accord
My version that which will be the replacement of the C32 is a C38, with 6-speed auto in 2005.
The engine will came from the SL 350, but I am sure that the Kompressor that the AMG will install on the C38 will have the same boost of the new 55 Kompressor engines 0.9 bar. Thus, the hp will be slightly improved to, I guess, 370-380; however, a huge improvement in torque, I guess, 500-520 Nm so far. Our C32 has 1 bar and the potentiality of the C38 will be realistically higher, due to the lower OEM boost.
No doubt that the C38 will be quicker, especially in the highway due to the better torque and the 6-speed…..
Bye

Here is the way I reasoned getting the E55 (even if it was a 99 model) vs a spanking new C32:

-E55 is acording to magazine reviews about 1 tenth faster on the quarter mile, but slower 0-60 mph than the c32
-E55 has a V8, naturally aspirated, punch it at 80 mph and it will be faster than the C32, it has a lot more torque, but it is limited to 159 mph, C32 speedo reads to 180 mph (nice)
-E55 is a bigger vehicle and it is still a very good contender to the c32.

That is why I decided on the E55. C32 is a very nice looking car, I liked the wheels, brakes, and cluster better than the E55.

yep...i agree with you, but i got a C32 because it's cheaper and newer than the E55. lol

btw i got my car (my brother was driving actually) up to 158 mph yesterday. I thought the limiter is at 155 mph...oh well, i guess the speedo is off.

Even the older E55, wow!

Here are some times from Track Challenge

This would be the older E55, vs others for comaprison,
very impressive for the larger car.
Especially on a "technical" course. Almost hard to believe.

C55 was a special vehicle from AMG when the last gen C-class was still in production. C55 was only produce in 99 in a very small number, i think.
