I was looking at a c32 with around 78k miles and the owner told me it is starmarked until may 2008 with 100k miles. I checked the carfax and saw an extensive list of visits to the dealer for reapirs, I'm hoping all the issues have been worked out. I've been reading the issues with the car for months now and was a little weary of the car. I test drove it and absolutely loved it. What I was wondering is if the starmarked warranty is fully transferable and how do I go about taking care of that? I did not notice any problems with the engine when I was driving the vehicle, but I did not have the list presented in this thread https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c55-amg-w203/195973-buying-c32-needed-advice.html at the time.
So what exactly is covered on the starmarked warranty? Is it all inclusive, engine, interior, etc.? Do you think a year's worth of warranty is good enough for the car and can I extend it if I choose to keep the car after the warranty period. I'm just scared of buying the car and going through all the problems that every one went through.
Something stuck out to me though, the car looked to have bixenonx, but it's a 2002 and it did not have the washer that comes with the xenons. Is this weird or is it just me? There were not many options on the car from the look of it. The guy is asking 19k for the car. The brakes need to be changed, although the brake light has not come on, the tires look like they have 30% of thread left on them, and the windshield has a slight crack on the drivers side. Does the car sound like some thing I should get into or should I just leave it?
I did a search on starmarked, but didn't really get the answers that I wanted, plus I really like to hear everyone's opinions. Thanks in Advance.
Forgot to mention that it's being purchased from a private owner.

we leased a pre-owned 2000 starmark E320 wagon about 3 yrs ago and it was great as the starmark warranty covered pretty much everything except for wear & tear items.
a few observations:
1) starmark used to mean automatic 7yrs/100k total warranty. recently, i've been seeing MB dealers describe starmark as 1yr, and then the optional up to 2 more years to take it up to 7yrs/100k, so be sure to ck w/ MB service.
2) warranty coverage is often dictated how well the svc advisor writes it up. as an example, if he writes up freon low, you'll likely have to pay for the parts and labor. if he says sensor bad, then MB will pay for both the labor/parts...including the sensor.
we're just wrapping up our lease and have decided to buy the car. took the car in for one last check up, just before the 100k miles...got about $4k worth of work, just in time
good luck with the car.
p.s. most mb svc depts i've visited no longer provide much loaners, and if they do, they'll pay the $25/day and offer you an enterprise rental car.

Yes, Starmarked is transferrable to a private party. You can ask your dealer for a brochure to find out what the warranty covers.
The previous owner might have upgraded to bi-xenons sometime after he purchased the car. If the car is using halogen lights, it won't have headlight washers.

Hi, My C32 had the Starmark 100k warranty. I am the third owner and the warranty transferred to me. You can take your car to any dealer and pretty much everything will be fully covered, except wear and tear as the previous poster mentioned. Your car is registered by your VIN by MB USA.
I never had a problem with them respecting the warranty, and I would think of this as a huge bonus because there aren't many available with the Starmark warranty.
Where are you located... Come check out mine.. its for sale with many upgrades..

I wish I could, but I'm in Houston, Texas. The drive is a little too far for me, but good luck with the sale. Originally Posted by amgmark

I didn't know you could get a c32 with halogens?

Glad to see another potential C32 owner from Houston. There is a laundry/check list here in the forum. If you decide to buy it, take it to the dealer and check for everything through the warranty period and fix all the common problems.

I never realized how rare c32's are here in Houston. Trust me, I already have an extensive list to go over next time I see the car again. I really hope the car doesn't have the valeo radiator. I've been hearing dealers don't want to change out the tranny anymore. I should know if I'm taking the plunge by tomorrow. Hopefully everything works out.Originally Posted by ///AMG4EVER

I have a question. Is the "Merceces Care New Vehicle Extended Limited Warranty" that is purchased when the car is initially sold as 'NEW' the same as Starmark? It was discovered only yesterday that the original owner bought this extended warranty and it provides an additional 48 months of premium coverage. I'm hoping that it is transferable. He had it tucked away in the owner's pouch and we found it in our search for the owner's manual.Originally Posted by amgmark

I read thru it and it suggests because this was a private sale and thru a dealership, the coverage is transferred. But then deeper into the read, there's some confusing verbage that suggest that it may not be.
Can anyone clarify?

ExploreSo it turns out that it took much longer to purchase the car as I thought it would. I finally have it in my possesion and will take pics of the car today. The car came with c55 wheels and the headlights seem to be aftermarket, possibly depo headlights. I think the headlights are halogens, but they have a very white appearance to the light. I may need to mod the car to have xenons, it's a shame that a car like this would come with regular halogens.

seems like the previous owner did some mods to the car. i would assume he took good care of the car

Well, the rims seem to have slight curb marks on them, but it may be from his wife driving the car. The engine compartment looks a little dusty, but other than that, the car is immaculate. I'm content with the fact that the car is starmarked until march 2009 or 100k miles. It's currently at 80k miles.Originally Posted by Shake
