C55 owners with resonators removed

I'm really considering removing mine. Before I do that, I want to hear your opinion. I really don't care much about HP gain. I would like to make my car sound louder w/o spending $1000+ for exhaust system.

If you can post sound clips, that would be great. By removing them, does your car sounds like an american V8?? Dealer shouldn't aviod my factory warrenty for that reason right?

Any regrets?
please share ur thoughts.

what about the torque loss? If you were going to do it have the muffler shop make you an x pipe.

No, I don't have a C55, but my C32 sounds great after the resonator delete.

The resonator is just a small muffler-lite. You should not see any change in HP or torque, just sound. Oh yeah, you'll drop a few pounds too.

Again for those of you who are going to do it, replace the resonator with an x-pipe!!! You should actually gain some power.

I'm not going to modify my exhaust, but if you were to do it you might as well do it correctly. Althogh i do no a great place to get it done in LA for cheap. An x-pipe scavanges the pulses from the other side (banks) and speeds up the exhaust theoretically it adds more torque and HP. I have seen real results on other v8's in the past when I did it. The is a company that the slk guys use who make just such a replacement. I would model it on that. - can't think of the name however.

I emailed the guy who made that video and this was his response to my question.

"Well, removing the resonator and the secondary CATs will definitely make your car sound louder, but you may not like to the sound after awhile. You'll gain about 4-6 hp with the secondary CATs off, but you will lose about 4-6 tq. About 2 months after I posted these videos I put my CATs back on. The exhaust just sounded too sloppy and untuned and I felt that's not how a high end german made car should sound. The resonator I would defiantly take off, it gives the car a deeper tone, but not that much louder and the car still has this tuned sound to it.

But anyway, my car also has headers and a larger intake so its still going to sound different.

Doing this will only void the warranty on the part of the exhaust you have changed, so if the shop that say takes your res off does a poor job welding the straight pipe back on and you get an exhaust leak from it your warranty will not cover it being fixed at a dealership.

Rich"
