Is the C55 a thirsty car?

Is the C55 a thirsty car?
I'm comparing between the C32 and C55 and its hard to decide. I can live with the size and interior design but how does fuel consumption go with both cars? I'm not looking into modding it as it will go to the parents. Plus, we would prefer the less troublesome car.

Let’s just be forthright and disclose that each C AMG has relinquished a gas guzzler fee upon initial purchase and, in reality, at each fuel fill. If you are concerned about your carbon footprint and fuel consumption, other models beckon.
Between the two, go with the big V8 in the C55!

I avg around 20mpg
on the highway i sometime see upwards of 24
off the highway you're looking at 15
i suppose if you drive a c32 slow enough that the blower never engages then you should get better mileage then the 55. Otherwise its probably similar

\WHY'S DOES EVERYONE WORRY ABOUT THE GAS PRICE UR DRIVEIN A MERCADES. I THINK MY C55 RUNS GREAT WITH THE FUEL CONSUMPTION, THAT'S ENTERD IN TO ITS TANK
-FUEL USED MOBIL 93
I GET ALMOST 200 MILES OUT OF MY TANK MAYBE EVAN MORE AND MOST OF THE TIME ITS AGGRESSIVE DRIVEING.
-ITS 45 DOLLORS TO FILL UP AND ON TOP OF THAT I LIVE IN NEW YORK GAS PRICE $3.49 A GALLON. -NO PROBLEM WITH FUEL
I GUESS I DONT FEEL IT AS MUCH WHEN IT'S COMPARED TO FILLIN MY TRUCK 85 DOLLORS
OVER ALL GAS FOR THE C55, GREAT!
PWR WISE- V8 IS AMAZING!
AS FOR THE C32 I HAVEENT DRIVEN BUT I SEEN SOME SERIOUS NUMBERS

If you are worried about gas mileage then an AMG is the last car you should be thinking about. I get 15mpg on my C32 if I'm lucky. I typically just drive around town, not much freeway, and zero commute.
If you still want an AMG and don't plan to mod it, get the C55.

My '32 gets 16.5 MPG average (mix of city/highway, mostly city). To compare, our RSX Type-S gets nearly 10 MPG better in the same loop. On the highway, our little C32 barely clears 20 MPG. So yes, it's a thirsty car. As people are saying, if gas mileage is your concern, there are many performance cars which are more fuel efficient.

Chicago is one of (if not the...) most expensive metro areas for gas prices in the U.S. - that said, it is amazing how much gas prices vary from area to area. Specifically where I'm at in PA, premium is around $3.25 or so - what's amazing however is that if I cross the river into NJ their gas prices are consistently 25-30 cents per gallon cheaper than what I see in PA - was just in Jersey last week meeting a client, and was able to fill up @ $2.95 for premium... was pretty happy about that.

91 goes for mid to high 3s here, varying from station to station.
It's amazing the C55 gets such good mileage from such a huge engine. I know my car's AWD but it gets no better than 21mpg on a run to San Diego (if no traffic) or Vegas... and i'm driving smoothly. In the city, it's between 8mpg and 11mpg. I emptied a tank in about 110miles one time (though I was up Mulholland Dr. once or thrice)
Oh well, I don't care about mpg, and I can say that with a clear conscience knowing my car is about ten times better for the environment than those smoke spewing pickups and compacts still alive (barely) and kicking from the 80s and 90s.

I normally average about 16.5 when im driving somewhat agressive and about 21 on the highway. When I drive the speed limit ill get close to 19 city and around 22-24 highway. I think the car gets really good gas mileage. However, when im driving really hard ill get less than 13

A post about gas mileage on our AMG's? If ya want to play with the big toys, ya can't be worrying about what gas mileage you get out of the thing. I just took a peak at my trip gauge and it showed 17.9 MPG and I have yet to reset it. I only looked at it after reading this post for giggles. I'm filling up every 210-240 miles it seems.

I can drive my C55 moderatly hard and get better milage than driving my grand cherokee (4.7L H.O.).
C55 - 20 mpg daily on a 24 mile one way trip to work, average 45 MPH. 6 stop lights and 6 - 8 mile stretchs of highway. This includes a couple of romps on the peddle along the way.
Jeep - 17.2 mpg on the same drive if you keep your foot out of it.

MPG's aren't that bad
I had a C43 that seem to get better than average milage for a V-8. When i switched to the C55 the first thing I noticed was much higher fuel consumption. However after it broke in the mpg increased very close to the C43. Both of them where DDs.

Same with me. I was averaging 19 mpg in my 99 C43 and only average 17.2 in my '05 C55. Driving style is the same and mostly on local back roads. Not much highway driving. When on the highway I could average 19.9 in the C55 and almost 22 in the C43.
