New C32 Owner in the U.K
Just thought I would say hello to all on the forum and see if there are any other U.K based owners on this forum.
Have had the car for about 3 weeks now and all is well with the car.
I have one strange problem though and any input would be appreciated...
My car has clear after market headlamps on and when switched to auto they are always on!!!! even during the day!
Any ideas???

Hello,
Yes I'm based near Glasgow and have an early 02 C32, which I bought from Stratstone Merc in Wakefield. Where are you?
So far I've had some issues with the anti roll bar bushes, and now I think the track rod ends are needing replaced, but it's under MB warranty so no problem there. One of the retracting mirrors has stuck also.
As for your lights, what year is your car, as I have the "frosty" lenses on my lamps. I suspect it's probably the light sensor in the rear view mirror area, someone else might be able to confirm this.
Anyway, enjoy your car.
Cheers
Alan

simple answer - in the menu system on the dash you can chnage options - at the moment your lights are probably set to CONSTANT or something like that - what you need to change it to is MANUAL. Then you are in charge of when the lights come on or off - then if you select AUTO from the light switch area it will use the sensor to decide etc.
To help you understand what this is - look at a VOLVO - lights are always on - your C32 is setup in the menu's as being like a Volvo - always on - just change the setting under LIGHTING to MANUAL - all will be ok then.
Congrates on the new car
I LOVE my C32 - but yes mine also has had no end of issues - all sorted under warrenty but still annoying when its in MB for days on end
Also mine still has the shaking at idle problem and no damn MB Dealer round here reckons its an issue even though she never used to shake - hopefully you wont get that problem

Welcome to the forum. Several generations ago, my forefathers (Goodlad) were from Great Britain. I have visited your fine Country on occasion. Quite pleased to have settled in California though.
In the states, daytime running lights are driver selectable through the options menu. Did you not receive an operator’s manual with your AMG? If indeed the lights-off function is not selectable, it will then be incumbent upon you to locate and secure the services of a modification amicable agent or competent independent technician. The referenced option is easily modified via DAS equipment. Best wishes.

Thanks for all of the help on the lights front and very nice to meet all you fellow u.k owners and of course the gentleman with u.k ancestry (your post in particular was very well composed and your grasp of the English language is obviously indicative of your imperial ancestry)! I live in the Royal County of Berkshire! I am originally half Swedish and half Canadian but have been fully anglicised!
You all say you have things done under warranty??? Assumingly why warranty would now have expired if my car is an 02??
The other problem I have with the car is a slight knocking noise when driving at very slow speeds! No it’s not my music! As I am aware of the inherent gearbox issues with the c32 it has made me paranoid.
With reference to my issue with the lights I shall hastily attempt to rectify the issue through the menu system. If this fails I shall move to Sweden and put a Volvo badge on it!

Hi mate - well im part canadian (from my dads side) and im in Kent Uk - very English indeed though
When were saying done under warrenty its because many of us bought from Mercedes so they give you a used car Mercedes warrenty - usually a year which can be extended. Did you buy privately ?

To give you an idea of how valuable the merc warrenty is here is what mines had done since I got mine:
Intercooler Pump
Heated Seat Pads
Split Spark plugs
Tilting Passenger Mirror
O2 sensors
XENON power controller
Front Anti Roll Bar
and afew other bushes etc
The bill has been well over 5K! I would certainly never buy this car without a warrenty. In fact I still have 2 outstanding issues - constant shaking whilst at idle and jellylike handling at speed - booked into Mercedes Tonbridge to get sorted - once again - im SOOOO glad I have warrenty

Can I purchase an extended warranty from merc and how much are they?
Mine is silver with Black interior. Love the car but I am worried about things going wrong!
Its an 02 Model with 60k and I paid 17.5k privately. car is in immaculate condition and the previous owner had really looked after it!
My best friend has a black one with brabus wheels on it they look nice. He recently put some 19 inch carlson wheels on and took them off and put them on e-bay the next day! They looked a little too bling!

well I was told once by a dealer that you can get Merc warrenty - but you have to put your car through a workshop with the dealer to make sure their are no faults and then they charge you approx £1000 for the warrenty. This may be b*lls*it but I was told this so maybe its worth checking with your local dealer.
When the cars running its a wicked car - just annoying they have so many faults though

I bought mine in November last year, it had 31k on it, its a 51 plate car in silver with black interior. I paid £20k from a Merc Dealer with 1 year warranty and breakdown cover etc.
It's going in soon to get track rod ends done and also the drivers door mirror won't fold in.
So far please with the car though. It doesn't get driven hard, my wife uses it during the week with the kids in the back. I use a 1.6 Alfa 156 to get to work which keeps the running costs of the AMG down.
Cheers

silver 2002 c32 amg
hello there
I'm also from the UK and reside in the midlands near Nottingham
the previous owner of your car (Andy Cyp) is indeed a member of this board and i have had the pleasure of meeting him and seen your car first hand
here's a pic i took at brooklands back in january this year,
this is your's (andy's car) in the middle ....on the right is mine and on the left is Robs a.k.a Bobby Dazzler (yet another forum member)
and here is another,..
and from the back
as far as the warranty is concerned
you can get one from mercedes but first they will want to give your car a good going over which you will have to pay for ....about £250 ,
Then if it gets a clean bill of health they will then ask you for approx £7/800 per year to keep it covered , so not cheap
I know that Andy spent a fair bit of money on mods which may cause a problem if you were to try and take out the warranty IDK
my warranty ran out about 18 months ago and i've had a few things fail since, but by using independant merc garages plus some other trusted specialists, and also with the help of the great bunch of guys on this forum i've managed to get things fixed for a lot less than the dealer would charge
i dare say that some of the c32's more common faults have already afflicted your car and been replaced/rectified so hopefully you'll have lots of trouble free and enjoyable motoring ahead
mine's had it's fair share of troubles but despite this i still love it and can't imagine selling anytime soon

Ive been to Brooklands too afew times doing AMG track events - how bout we all set a day and meet up at Brooklands?!?! Maybe end the day with a meal at the local or something? It would be so nice to have meets liek they do in the US!
BTW I notice your new car WarHammer has the same Front Grill as mine too! NIce hey!
#19
...and mine is the blue estate parked in bay number 210. I met Andy Cyp at that event, and can say he is a total C32 fanatic, and much love has been given to that particular car...
#21
Thanks for all the replies. Its nice to know that the car has been loved and looked after. I still speak to andy and I believe he is still hunting for a new car.
You mentioned my car had already been afflicted with the common C32 ailments do you know what problems andy had and what mods he had done. We never quite clarified that question because as you can imagine you don't really talk about problems with a car when you are trying to sell it!!!
I would be up for a meeting and a pint at some point in the future or even a track day or meeting up at some sort of event! My best mate also has a C32 so I should drag him along too. BTW his I/C pump went last night!!!!

Well check diarys and lets set a date - would everyone want a weekend like sunday?!?!
How bout I throw a date in....... Sunday August 12th 2007 @ Brooklands?
If we agree on that date then some of us may want to book an AMG track event - and then end up at a local pub for a meal maybe?
How does that sound ?

12th of August does not sound bad. Has anybody else here tracked at brooklands and what sort of costs were involved. I used to do alot of track days in previous cars but have never been to brooklands....

So I guess we'd all meet up - say hello, wonder round inside for abit, some would go off to their booked track event whilst the rest watch and laugh and drink aand then as the day ends we drive somewhere for an evening meal together.
Of course the main thing would be to exchange C32 memories, ideas, etc etc throughout the day.

I have already agreed to take my SLK to MB World on the following weekend, the 19th, but I suppose two weekends on the trot is not really a hardship...
You can pay £25 for a chauffered ride around in an AMG car of your choice if you wish. Ideal if you have a bored wife in tow!!!
