gearbox & differential fluid change

hey guys I figured out how to do a differential fluid change on
slkfans page, but fumbled at the transmission part.

From what I can gather I see two possible ways to drain out
the atf fluids, one on the bottom on the oil pan, and the other
on top by the supercharger with a machine that sucks out the
fluid, but the question is how the hell do I fill up the 8.5quarts
of fluid? Please don't tell me I just fill it from there. I'm really
gonna kick myself in the *** if that is the way to do it.

Gonna use Redline ATF and 75W90 gear oil fyi who are curious.

No need to kick yourself! Have a look at these two links -

https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c55-amg-w203/157026-transmission-service.html
and
http://mercedesshop.com/Wikka/Trans7226Fluid

Trust they will prove to be at least somewhat useful. Let us know how it goes.

yes, that is where you fill it, but why not pull the pan and change the filter at the same time?

also, just fyi, i was instructed by numerous reliable sources not to use the Amsoil fluid in the tranny and to go with the factory replacement fluid...that is what i did...

so if you use the Amsoil fluid, i will be interested in the results, please report back either way...

also, make sure you get the tranny measuring tool/stick from the dealer so that you can make sure you can measure the fluid...

He's using Redline, not Amsoil. Still, I'd use the MB fluid.

Sorry for not updating the thread. Did the ATF coolant flush, but only managed
to get 4.5 quarts of ATF out, changed the filter (140-277-00-95), trans oil pan
gasket (140-271-00-80) and the transmission dipstick (140-589-15-21-00).

completed this last afternoon with my local mechanic.

Very simple straight forward.

I was able to get about 4 +quarts of fluid (after leaving the pan off for a few minutes)

I only added 4 quarts for now. (easier to add then to remove)

Car is running smooth and shifts are better. I feel less vibration during a stop.

I paid $36 for the gasket and filter at the dealer.

bought the fluid at $5 per quart from a member on this board ($20)

paid my mechanic $40 for the job. ( I kinda helped too)

over all under $100 bucks.

But next time.. I really would like to do the Torque converter. I was not very comfortable doing now.

Hopefully somebody else can post some pictures how to best approach this task.

I read somewhere about disconnecting the transmission cooler line into the radiator and flushing the TC. After dropping the pan and replacing the filter you refill the transmission, start the engine, run around 2 liters of ATF into a container, stop the engine and refill, repeating the process until the fluid coming out changes color.

I was thinking of doing this too. But you would wasted the fluid right?

I had only 6 quarts of fluid so I was not sure if I would be short.

I'm assuming my ATF fluid is not a mixed color.. since I was only able to replace 4 qts.

The car behaves better.. but probably will have the fluid completely flush in the next 6 months.

I had my TC replaced 2 years ago from the dealer.. so I know my fluid was replaced at least 40k miles ago.

Yes I did got 4.5L of gearbox fluids out & put back 5 quarts, measured it and
looks fine. Got the transmission jerk to go away for quite some time now.
Can't manage to simulate the jerk when before I got whenever I wanted it to.

After reading the link of how to do it, I think I'm gonna go ahead and buy 5
more quarts of ATF fluids and pay the stealership to do it. I still have 2 quarts
of diff oil I can't figure out how to pour it into, I know how to flush it but
can't find how to fill it in!

Interesting, Rey - thanks for sharing your experience. The one right above it (Synthetic ATF) is listed as an MB approved fluid, FWIW...

Indeed it does Brett, I shoud've gone with that one, but many friends
(some owning their own performance shops) told me to go with the
High Temp ATF instead, can't go wrong with that.

Also FWIW I've tried simulating the jerk and I can't get it to act up again

bump, so which fluid is MB approved? The high temp or C+? Is this better than MB fluid?

go to advance auto and look in the oil row. by the rear end gear oils theres a small hand pump which screws onto the gear oil bottle. cost approx 6$ jack the rear of the car remove the top plug FIRST then the bottom plug and drain. should be a 14 mm male socket. you do this becuse if for some reason you cant get the top plug out you dont have a rear with no oil!
now attach the pump to the bottle. lay on the ground and stick the tube into the top hole and pump away! takes approx 2 qts. i use mobil 1 gear oil
as for the tranny flush if you did the pan theres a hard line connecting to a rubber line along the side of the engine. break loose. put rubber line in a container. start the car foot on the brake and shift the gears manually for a second or two each then shut off. should have approox 4 qts in the container. this only takes a few seconds. refill and your done!

After speaking with the Redline Tech's, recommended Redline D4 ATF for our C32, and D6 ATF for our C63 AMG.

That's interesting. Why D4 for the C32? On their site they recommend D6 for MB in general.
