For 2003+ models, I just found out how to get this working every single time without fail (since I had problems with my battery recently):
1) put key in ignition
2) turn key to position 1
3) toggle menu to overall mileage screen
4) turn key to off position
5) turn key back to position 1
6) press odometer reset button 3 times quickly
7) screen automatically shows battery voltage
8) toggle through pages using steering wheel control until it gets to dynomometer page
9) use +/- buttons to choose ON
10) Turn ignition on and car will be in dyno mode at that point. You will know for sure when the display toggles through ESP/ABS/BAS screens.
*If menu is already set to display overall mileage screen, you can skip steps 4 and 5.
**Overall mileage does NOT have to be set to zero for this to work.
To turn it off dyno mode, you have to go back to the menu screen and de-select ON.

Why for my sake? Makes no difference to me...thought all the M's ran well over 7000RPM anyway thats what bmw's m division is all about. These guys are making 600hp bmw m coupes, and the likes of m3's so i think they know what they doing.
Anyway not here to argue was just sharing my experience today just as i like reading about others, the more info. around the better. I was more interested if anyone else has heard or experinced this claim of running in dyno mode u will not make the full hp, cause this thread is letting everyone know how to go about doing a dyno run?

There was a 5whp difference from Dyno Mode to no Dyno mode when I tried this on a Dynojet. The runs were back to back as well.
I don't think it matters if you use dyno mode or not.

That may be the case for the C32's. My car, OTOH, couldn't be dyno'd without being in dyno-mode.

the M3 to rev pass 6,500RPM, until we put it on the dyno mode. Go do
yourself a favor go to bimmerforums or e46fanatics and search Dyno mode.

Nah, I was just excited because with all the combinations of opinions on how to get to dyno mode, when I was actually getting my car dyno'd, I was having trouble with it.
Then, the other day when my battery drained, it had enough juice for me to try to get into dyno mode. Sure enough, I got it in the first try. Then I realized all along that I was making it more complicated than I needed to. First time I actually paid attention to the battery voltage readout (which was 9 Volts) when I got it in dyno mode.

Okay, so I went for my first ride in DYNO mode yesterday, and what did I find?
My car is LOCKED out of 1st and 2nd gear
![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
I could not even manually down shift, AT ALL
![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
What gives, I thought this was a way to SHRED some tires for fun?
Anyone else have this issue.
I actually pulled off the side of the highway to put it back into normal, as the car was REALLY NO FUN AT ALL in Dyno mode, fyi
Thanks ina dvance

Seriously, I haven't a clue on this one. My 2002 drives pretty normally in Dyno Mode, not that I've done it more than once.
Anyone else know the answer?

I was pulling oput of my driveway, and tried it at many speeds. The car ran SOOOOOOO poorly, that I pulled off the road, and put it back into normal.
I just wondered if this is a headache for 04's. Since the procedure to get it in DYNO is differnt, maybe the limitations are as well

Oh well, thanks anyway

Yeah, I haven't seen a problem like this in Dyno mode. I've got a 2004.5 C230KSS and when it was in the shop for R&D on my tuning, it ran ridiculous in dyno mode, but I'm assuming because it has much less power than the 32's.

No offense intended. Believe me, there are some newbs on here that would've believed that something was wrong with their car because they couldn't down-shift into 1st or 2nd on the highway, so didn't mean to offend you, just didn't want to assume.

I understand about newbs, as I also teach diving. Thanks again anyway, as I am open to ANY susgestions.
Since I got my bridgestone pp's, I can barely spin the tires as they are that sticky. I was just hoping to go out and leave a few dollars/black strips

My car 2002 C32.
Procedure for C32 does not work- doesn't matter how many times I tried, and how long I did hold odometer reset bottom.
BUT Procedure for C55 works !!!!

Any ideas???
Regards
Jack
And it was built on 11/2001.

Has your car had any major upgrades of software or ECU? Is it possible your car ended up with the 2003 ECU to fix the tranny jerk problem?
This is just a shot in the dark. I really don't know enough to figure this one out.

Not that I know off.
It had S/C replaced, SAM and God knows what else b4 I bought it.
There is possibility that it was in an accident (evidence of repaint ) but no records on carfax or dealer database or insurance company.
And it does have a jerk.
Just another mistery.

Something was changed out that affected the brain. My car, built 1 month before yours, does not show that screen. When I enter dyno mode, it gives me oil level and engine code number.
PS; the oil level show here is not accurate. The car was sitting in the garage for a few hours.

C32 AMG - RIP :(
Two things I've learned about dyno mode at the drag strip:
1. When ESP is disabled via dyno mode, the car is a SERIOUS one-tire-fryer. The thing WILL NOT spin both tires.
2. My best passes were with dyno mode OFF and the ESP off button pushed.

dyno mode is a fun thing to play with... i have an 2002 C32 and last time i used Dyno Mode i got Gear Ratio error reads and gear ratio changes
but everything went back to normal after i turned off the car and burned on the ignition without starting... so i dont mess with it anymore

How to stop worrying and learn to love "Dyno Mode".
I purchased my C32 AMG In December 2001. I raced in the SCCA from 1967 to 2000 and have been teaching racing from 1992 to the present. Since I purchased the car in 2001 I have been running it on "Dyno Mode" and no other mode, period.
I use the car stricly to teach at race tracks in the east coast and it is increadable that I am still able to drive a car like my first race car a Lotus 47 (1966 year) with no controls whasoever. I have never experiance any problems with "Dyno Mode". I will say that in my humble opinion running this car in any other mode is right down dangerous. On several occations when I first purchased the car and was not running on "Dyno Mode" and I made a sharp right or left turn this car has left me standing in the middle of the road waiting to get hit by other cars coming at me as I sat there hopeless.
With the traction control systems "on" this car is down right dengerous, period. I have never run this car with traction controls on even in the rain teaching racing with this car on the track.
If you are having problems with your transmission, see your MB dealer.

So, you actually run in dyno mode every time you start the car? Do you go through the entire process each start up? That seems like alot of effort for a daily driver.
