OK, that brings new life to this thread.

How have you done the perma-dyno mode?

Dyno Mode!!!!

I had a AMG technician perform the modifications for me; including the ability to run higher octane fuels.

In regrads specifically to the ability to run perma-dyno mode I can tell you that it was as simple as plugging the car to the technicians computer. They have the software to make this modification for you. The same is true for the higher fuel octane settings.

Note: I do get sponsorship for my C32AMG through Benz and my local New England dealer to track this car.

My humble advice to you is to get to know your AMG technician well and have him make these modifications for you.

Note:My car has passed all emissions testing in NH.

Dyno Mode.

One more note: I am now able to turn "Dyno Mode" on and off at the steering wheel without the AMG Tech.

OK, now you're just pissing me off. Are you making this up to make everyone here envious?

edit: I'm just jealous of the cool feature you have, not really pissed off. Enjoy.

Anyone else have this issue.

I actually pulled off the side of the highway to put it back into normal, as the car was REALLY NO FUN AT ALL in Dyno mode, fyi

Thanks ina dvance
See yeah

Okay guys, I GOT IT TO WORK!

Once I put it in dyno mode, with the above directions, I have to turn off the ignition and wait a couple minutes before starting her if I want to be able to change gears. DON'T ASK ME WHY

I played around yesterday for about an hour on this. Anyway, in DYNO mode, the car is WORETHLESS, IE One wheel spins EVERYWHERE. I could not even pull out of my own street without lighty up the drivers wheel. Oh well, as 1FAST and Jerry said, DYNO mode DOES NOT WORK for the drag satrip, and they are RIGHT!

No, and I don't need to do that at my age and with my experience!

I use the car stricly to teach at race tracks in the east coast and it is increadable that I am still able to drive a car like my first race car a Lotus 47 (1966 year) with no controls whasoever. I have never experiance any problems with "Dyno Mode". I will say that in my humble opinion running this car in any other mode is right down dangerous. On several occations when I first purchased the car and was not running on "Dyno Mode" and I made a sharp right or left turn this car has left me standing in the middle of the road waiting to get hit by other cars coming at me as I sat there hopeless.

With the traction control systems "on" this car is down right dengerous, period. I have never run this car with traction controls on even in the rain teaching racing with this car on the track.

If you are having problems with your transmission, see your MB dealer.
As a SCCA instructor myself, I have a few questions regaurding the dyno mode for track useage:

1. NO ABS at all, do you feel this is good for a rookie?
2. How in the heck do you control ONE wheeel spin from coming out of ANY corner, I tried it and its a BAD joke leaving a one wheel spin half way down the straights.
3. No air bags, again for a rookie?

Oh well, I just feel the car is FASTER, and MUCH safer if you simply turn off the ESP, and Leave the dyno mode alone, for the track, IMHO.

OT. You might want to ask this in the "Drag Strip" sticky.

Dyno Mode

1. Turning ABS off is never good for a rookie and that goes for all the controls on this car witht he excepting of ESP off. Good idea.
2. Throttle application is key on Dyno Mode, the computer is just doing the work for you. After time you will be able to control both your braking and throttle application more precisely than any computer.
3. In SCCA Racing, only in Showroom Stock and a few IT classes do they allow any kind of computer interventions.
4. Eventually as you become more experience you will go much faster than any on-board computer can take you. I lap all the tracks that I teach at three to six seconds a lap faster on Dyno Mode.

Hey there bmw:

I am not sure if I agree with this statement about throttle application. To my knoweldge, the computer makes NO difference from Dyno mode to regular on a C32 throttle repsonse. If you are talking about the computer modulation, from wheel spin, okay. But regular throttle, I do not beleive so.

Speaking from a NON rookie approach, I REALLY DOUBT ANYONE can control a car better than a computer, refering to F1 with active controls my friend.

Lastly about lap times, I tried it at Beaverun back in Spetmeber, and I was a GOOD 3 seconds faster with simply ESP off, and NO dyno mode. There is no way you can control the one wheel spin, effectively accelerating out of a corner with an open diff, compared to what the computer controls can do for you. If we had a LSD rear, YES I would put it in DYNO mode in a heartbeat. You simply would have to feather the throttle WAY too much, and the computer can make corrections WAY faster than the BEST human reactions.

I will admit, it wass my first time with a C32, however I have hundreds of laps at beaverun, IN MANY CARS, so I have a fear amount of experince on this course to judge the effectivenss of the controls, IMHO.

Oh well, I will give it another try in the spring at Nelson ledges, and back at Beaverun and report then.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS MR BMW.

See yeah

NO, not worth the gain IMHO, for just having fun in an somewhat expensive car. I use Brigestone's ne 050 PP's with VERY good results, ie passing several R-Tired cars.

I only use R compunds for my real race car, or sanctioned events, NOT for fun or practice, even though I know they drop your times CONSIDERABLY my friend

WHY, I know ALL about trail braking, power sliding, etc, etc. AS I mentioned previously, I have over 20 years in on the track, and raced formula fords, altlantics, SCCA, etc, etc. I have a very good knoweldge about weight transfer, understeer, oversteer, etc, etc

The fastest way around a bend IS NOT SIDEWAYS.

Dyno Mode

Thank you for your anwers. My recommendation is for you to try running on "Dyno Mode" again next year, full time, on the clock until you get the hang of it and after a while your going to be flying like the wind.

Good luck...............

AFR probe bung

Since this is the official Dyno thread.........

Y'all who are Dyno'ing a lot and getting accurate AFR data:
- what size bung did you have welded (i.e. outer diameter). Is the standard size 1"?

- where exactly are your dyno guys tapping the system?

- any of you know of a good source where I can get one (plus the plug) that will not rust?

Thanks!

I was over a second improvement using dyno mode. With the minor upgrades it was able to power out of the turns where in esp off, i would still get some brake resistance.

If you notice in my video coming out of the chicago box, running in esp off, i couldnt get the same resault entering and exiting as i did in dyno mode. The car though was putting down to the wheels nearly 50hp/60tq more than it was stock.

Previous to the pulley/ecu upgrade, i could never get the burst out of the turns, i mean we all know how fast the C32 is stock, but if your giving it the nuts on a 90 degree day, if your coming out of a turn and on the throttle, it would feel almost slow. The Pulley/ECU helped immensely, dyno mode accented it nicely.

That C32 ripped *** and im sad to see it go i mean serious, have you seen very many TRAP @ 111mph
