Am I the only one with a C32 2001?

I'm trying to figure out firstly if I am the only person with a 2001 C32 AMG and secondly if I am the only one with the Becker Audio 30 APS????

I am trying to read up on intergrating a iPod with track displays etc on the dash. It seems that everyone speaks of the Command system. Does anyone have exp. with the Audio 30 please?

Thanks

Alex

Can't answer if you are the only one with a 2001 on the forum but nobody in North America has a 2001. It came to our shores first in 2002.

I am unfamiliar with the Becker 30. Can you post more info or pics of the unit?

Was the car manufactered here in South Africa do you think?

In which case maybe I do have one of the firsts.

The stereo is called the 'Audio 30 APS' it's made by Becker which is part of the Hardmon Karmon (spelt something like that) group.

Welcome, South African C32!

The wide variety of MBs made and marketed around the world continues to amaze me. Doesn't seem very efficient but I guess the more Benzes the better.

FYI, Becker is a brand of Harman International, which has a number of well known brands. See www.harman.com. Founder Sidney Harman was a hi-fi pioneer and his wife Jane is a successful politician.

I would doubt that your car was manufactured in SA, like the new W204's are. The AMG's are handbuilt in Germany. I don't think MB would be shipping the engines to SA for assembly of such a limited production car. Most likely, you got one of the Euro models produced for MY2001. And, yes, that would make yours one of the firsts.

Oh how nice now I feel special and I'm worried that I will be the first in line with all the problems.

The cars actually at the dealer now for work on the gearbox, it seems that it doesn't change gear smoothly enough from 1-2. I read somewhere that the 2003 software fixes a problem with the torque converter looking momenterly at 1500 rpm. Anyone else exp with this?

78k and it's not a problem as such

I just don't think the previous owner ever got the matter looked at. So when you going to wisper the Audio 30 APS iPod secret to me?

No mods yet only had it a week or two.

I was reading about your sub project, would be interested to see that. Did you add an amp?

No real big mods on the cards, appart from the iPod and probably phone install. Not too keen to undertake engine mods etc at this stage.

Thats a nice low mileage one there for the year!

ok the ipod kit is by dension audio, not sure if you heard of it. It is the gateway 500 series and works like a beaut! It integrates into the cars original fibre optic system. Hope you have the cd shuttle in the glovebox then its a treat. So therefore the steering controls can control the ipod as well. All this though does come at a price unfortunately like R4500 however the quality is really good not like the fm transmitter crap that i dispise!

Anyway as far as the sub i am really chuffed the way it turned out. Yes i installed an additional amp to power up a single 12" which adds a much "fuller" sound to the car and way better than the excuse that bose provides on the rear shelf.

Yip thats the guys...

And NO ! it does not display the track information on the oem unit! damn, it bugs me when u get duff gen.! That price includes fitment so may as well let the pro's do it... BTW i also live in durbs so yeah you can see the unit in action whenever.... Anyway the guys at Image audio in umhlanga fitted my unit and did a great job. Craig is the owner there, very helpful. Although the agent for durban is a guy named Ryan and for some reason he said it cost R4500.00 straight for the unit and fitment... I must say i tried to tell him that got a cheaper quote for the stockists in JHB, but i ended up paying his price in the end...

I would love to see it in action.

Did you have a look at this product?

http://www.diceelectronics.com/Merch...uct_Attributes[1]:value=2001&Product_Attributes[2]:value=C-Class

I would be keen to see if this was able to display track names. Though since the Audio 30 APS doesn't display CD names I guess none of them will work. Where did you mount the iPod, in the glove box?

I'm starting to wonder if R4500 might be better spent on sticking a new head unit in with DVD and ipod slot.

yeah it is quite alot of cash, but anyway each to his own... Yes for now i have the ipod in glovebox but think i am gonna move it out of there as the radio unit only displays up to track 99... a bit crappy if you looking for track 10542 ! lol.. so u need to be able to see the ipod screen unfortunately. Looks like everything has its ups and downs!

I recall when I first joined this forum reading something about some of the C32 cars being manufactured in SA. None of the North America-bound ones, but I'm sure I saw it. Short of digging through the results of searches, does anyone remember this?

Hi there, I'm in HK. I got mine 02 model and import from S. Africa via dealer. The car came with 1 DIN head unit (not the big screen one).

I realize that the reason may be M.B. wanted to cut the cost to fight with E46 M3 that time. By the way, I assume that reason because I got a 1994 C36, the price was $160,000 at time, but the 02 C32 was only $89,000!!!! My friend just bought a 08 C63 at $128,000, thats what I wonder E46 M3 was a bigger selling car that time and MB lower the assembly cost to fight with it.
