C32 AMG - RIP :(
found the top end of my C32

well, a couple weeks ago after I bought the C32 I went out to a long empty stretch of desert road to see what the factory speed limiter was like. To my surprise it went 161 mph as indicated by the analog speedometer. Thought it was supposed to be limited to 155mph.

So my buddy suggested that I try it again, but use the digital speedo readout and use the GPS to verify.

So yesterday I went out and did it again at the same location. I took my wife's new Magellan GPS and also used the Comand screen on diagnostic mode to show my GPS speed. Here are the results:

analog speedo max: 160 mph
digital speedo max: 159 mph
wife's new GPS: 160mph
Comand GPS: 161 mph

So, I'd say it's safe to say my car is limited to 160 mph, right?

well, I've done a search here and apparently this isn't uncommon.

no, tires are 265/30/19 in back and 235/35/19 in front. Not that it matters, my wife's GPS doesn't know what size my tires are.

Mine ran mid 160mph bone stock as well. The car gets REAL light over 130mph!

I was actually pondering that myself. Its amazing how many hidden modes, menus, and tricks these cars can do that we are still learning about nearly 5 years later.

the larger overall diameter of the 265/30-19 will make the 5 mph diff on top end.

same here for top speed- i have 265/30-19 as well. i never had a chance to let her rip with the full stg 2 + ....i have no limiter. she should pull to redline.

I would think that the speed limiter would be based on MPH, not RPM. The larger overall diameter of the wheels would make the car be traveling faster than the speedo shows.

right but the car cannot sense mph. it's done by axle rotation. the diff between 245/40-17 and 265/30-19 is 24.7 vs 25.3 OD. so my math gives me a diff of 0.6" , ie an increase of 1.024 over stock....so if you were doing 155mph on 245/40-17 then that's 158.7 on 265/30-19. not as large as i thought~4mph.

Right, we're both saying almost the same thing. The issue is is why his speedo let him pass 155 if the limiter was 155.

Press and hold MUTE+1+3 at the same time. Do it from your radio or cd mode.

Theoretically yes, but even with the oversized tires, my speedo is only 1 mph slower than the GPS at even those speeds.

In the Comand Navigation setup menu there is a place to enter tire size. I've entered the 265/30/19 size there. I wonder if this corrects the speedo for the tire size?

Anyone know? Because theoretically when my speedometer showed 158/159, the GPS SHOULD have said 165 or so. But instead it was only 1 mph higher.

Forgot I still had those listed in the sig block. That's outdated. Regardless, you are 110% correct...the Fuzions are total crap! They looked cool though.lol I didn't get more than 8k miles out of them. Granted they were beat on but they still fell apart (literally) way too quick.
I'm currently running Goodyear F-1s. They have much more bite and are still an aggressive looking tire.
Even with better tires the car still gets very light over 130mph. By light I mean runs out of downforce. It may be an autobahn runner, but it still needs a spoiler and more of a front lip to run safely at those speeds in anything other than a perfectly flat straight.
Back to the original topic of the speed limiter - I have stock rims and still run mid 160mph before hitting the speed limiter. Digital speedo will bounce between 164-166mph all day.

My car is showroom stock and also supposed to be limited to 155. I've gotten it to 168. Verified by my Pioneer GPS Nav. Speedometer and GPS were only 1 MPH off. The car said 167, the GPS said 168. Don't know. I guess that's a "good" thing?

Ive had mine to 162 and had plenty left. I only slowed down because of running up on traffic. You cant pass people at those speeds. That will freak out and turn into you or something. Ive seen videos too at 185 etc...Im sure mine would hit 175 no problem. All stock with Proxes4. very stable at 160. Especially for such a small car.
