Why can't I sell my c55 amg???

Hi guys, I don't know why, but my car is still available. What is it going to take to sell it? The car is in awesome condition, is fully loaded, still under factory warranty for one more year, and priced well below book value. Any advice on what I can do to sell it.

I would really appreciate it.
The link below leads to the classifieds I've had it under for over 2 weeks now. I have gotten barely any interest. HELP

Hey PIXC55:

I don't feel that people here are cheap, or can't afford it, as they already shelled out a TON of cash for the car itself, Like you. What I do feel is a simple cost effectivness. I have bought many interesting cars in my days, and I am willing to pay only so much for them. Sometimes you have to find the right person that is either desperate for that excat car/part, or just doesn't care about money. Either one can take a while to find.

Also in todays high performance car market, there are MANY cars out there with our kind of performance, MOST of them being cheaper. For me, I will ALWAYS own atleast 1 AMG, and I am willing to PAY for it.

On a side note, I know that I have bought MANY sets of custom wheels for street and racing, and would NEVER pay over 2K for them. WHY, because there is NO gain in haveing a 5K + set of wheels that get scracthed, dented, banged up etc, over the 2K set. IMHO.

Good luck with the car sales my friend, and the parts.

See yeah

Bingo!!! The other thing is that how much really are wheels going to affect the daily driver anyway? I believe if those wheels were 18's, you'd have them sold by now. However not a ton of people want to buy 19" wheels in fear of damaging them due to roads that are less than perfect.

I think a lot of us bought the MB Brand because of the luxury and then bought the AMG's for performance. Combine them and you get Luxury Performance. With 19's, there goes your Luxury.

Mramg1 besides those s2000 are a dime a dozen! I think that maybe he should talk for himself about being cheap and being to your neck when purchasing a Benz.

There's a reason why people in this forum can afford more expensive cars than other forums. They are smart with their money for the most part.

You might want to do a little "peer review" and see what a similar vintage M3 or S4 might be selling for. Unfortunately, you'll probably need to sell it cheaper than the M3.

In the end, if you're having trouble selling, the simple fix is to lower the price. You can wait it out, but prices rarely go up over time. AMGs are funny things. They don't seem to have the following that they deserve.

I'd use the trade-in or CarMax number and add a couple grand, and be done with it.

+1. To me selling "common" used goods in this forum would be the last resort. MBW peeps are smart with their money and they know the products they're trying to buy, therefore you can't really play with your asking price.
When I was trying to get rid of my frosted xenon headlights, I didn't even try posting in this forum, but rather straight to Ebay and they were sold within days.

Autotrader is worthless for most individual sellers, in my humble opinion. It seems that dealers tend to get priority in terms of listings so your car gets pushed down to page 11 or something like that. My wife and I tried to sell her old car through AT a few years ago and we got 1 call, and that guy didn't even bother showing up for the appointment. The local classifieds by contrast netted several calls. It might be a little better for a limited production car like the C55 where there's not a ton of them on the market but still, I wouldn't bank on getting top dollar through this service. I'd save my money and time.

Carmax is ok in that it's fast and easy. We dumped the aforementioned wife's car this way after getting fed up with knuckleheads blowing off appointments and people making offers that were laughably low (like 1/2 of the Edmunds "TMV" that we were asking). The drawback is that Carmax is only going to give a couple hundred over trade-in value. I'd do this as a last resort.

The best is to rely on the MB enthusiast publications and websites for a car like this. You'll get a higher caliber of potential buyers and almost certainly a better price if it's a good car. I listed my E36 M3 on various BMW sites and sold it in less than a week, for a very decent price. The buyers were also knowledgeable about the car and much more pleasant to deal with.

i'd hit up craigslist or even ebay
I sold my C230 through craigslist mind u it took six months

I'm trading in my c32, not taking a chance

also dont fall for the 800 websites calling you to promise to sell your car
they have no more marketing tactics than you do and you will lose ur good hard earned cash

I'd sign up for autotrader. I sold my toyota that way. It's also linked to yahoo auto so you get alot more views. Plus with just $59 or so you can run it til you sell it, and you can modify your listings too

Focus on the non-AMG owners. Anyone who is an enthusiast MB owner probably has an AMG of a higher "rank" than the C55 (no offense intended since I own the only AMG on the planet of a lower "rank" than the C55!).

Bah. Our C32s accelerate faster and handle better than some other AMGs, come on now. For example, the W210 E55 and W208 CLK55 are the almost the same acceleration-wise, but I doubt they handle as well. And the G55 would be no comparison in either of these categories. And if we're going to by "rank" logic that some less enlightened MB buyers probably admittedly go by, the W202 C36 and C43 would still be lower rank than the C32. We're not the smartest, but certainly not the dumbest either, as they say

Trying to sell a used car sucks.. and I am going to do everything in my power to avoid having to do it again. Decided leasing is the way to go looking at depreciation and estimated repair costs with the current used car market.

I think your miles are pretty high for an 05 which could be the main problem and the warranty is almost expired. I would just try to trade it in if you can. If not advertise in more places or go to carmax..

Good luck man.. Car looks clean.

If you were in L.A., I bet you it would've been sold by now. Even though i don't like the body styling, the w204 just came out and the C63 is just around the corner (which is the only w204 I would actually consider), that may be a factor as well.

I hate to say it, but if you're desperate to get rid of the car, you might have to keep dropping your price until someone bites. If you can afford to wait, then I'd just wait it out.

Using what listing method would do you base your comment that it would have sold in LA by now?

Autotrader may have a little too specific of a search criteria – I believe they have a specific search criteria for “C55”. I know Cars.com uses the “C-Class” as a catch all for all C’s. You may get more exposure that way. Also, for your price, you may attract someone who is in the market for a regular C that is only a few grand less. That’s basically what happened to me when I started looking.

My advice is simple---patience! The market of AMG's and other specialty vehicles is very narrow. Lowering the price a couple of $k won't accelerate things too much. There aren't too many people at a given time looking to buy a used AMG, if that was the case then lowering the price to be more competitive might have helped but I don't think it is. You just have to advertise to as many places as you can and then wait for an interested buyer to show up and then negotiate the price with him.

If you are desparate to sell the car ASAP, there is always Carmax.

The percentage of people looking to buy a high performance c55 is very small. You need to lower your price to entice someone to spend a little more and get more performance, or be patient for the one person looking for the car.

I just sold my A3 6mt with very hard to find options, but it took a while for the right person to come along. But when they do, they want it and know they need to get it while they can

Good Luck
