Yes the remaining warranty should be valid. I think the CPO warranty is the same as the factory warranty in most respects. I don't think CPO warranty is worthless myself, as it's paid for about $3-4k in repairs on my car so far and, if I could go back in time, I'd have bought an extra year when I bought the car. This isn't a car you want to own without a warranty, as most people here will agree.

but if the car has the remaining factory warranty valid until august 2008, wouldn't the CPO status be useless?

No, the CPO starts AFTER the factory warranty expires. I still have a few months of factory warranty left, then my several year CPO warranty kicks in.

If you buy the Benz ext warranty buy the 3 or 4 yeras waht ever they offer after factory warranty. The guy whom I bought the car from bought the 2 year extended warranty which was real nice. I called benz since I still have 1.5 years on the warranty and ask to add the 3rd year they offer and they said no go. With the Bemz warranty you have to buy it all up front. So if you do get the Benz warranty buy it all because you can not do it later.

CPO warranty is a must-have

I bought my '02 C32 used in 2006 from a MB dealer here in Chicagoland. At the same time I purchased a 2 year CPO (or Star) warranty and let me just say that it has already paid for itself. I had an issue with the suspension that took 3 separate visits to fix and many many parts were replaced in the process. In the process of fixing this problem, I literally had every part of the front suspension replaced at no charge and w/out the CPO warranty the work would have cost in excess of $5000.

I can't stress how beneficial the CPO warranty has been.

was your c32's factory warranty expired? you can only purchase the star warranty if the car itself is at the dealership under CPO, right? so if i buy a car from a private seller or a dealership that sells trade-ins and lease returns, it is not CPO, correct?

Correct, the original warranty had expired and I bought the C32 at a MB dealer along with the Star warranty.

Star warranty = after market extended warranty (not MBZ)?

I was told by a dealer buddy that it is not from MBZ but it is an aftermarket company... So you can buy a car from a used car dealer and still get this star warranty....Can anyone chime in on this??

MBUSA used to call their CPO program STARMARK. The above poster meant "STARMARK warranty", that is through MBUSA. MBUSA changed it to Certified pre-owned now due to confusion that the name starmark created.

Extended warranty cannot be purchased thru MBUSA on a vehicle after 12 months in service, unless the vehicle is a MY2005 or newer then you can purchase and MBUSA extended warranty within the first 48 months of service or 50,000 miles. Good luck!

I've found the CPO warranty to be very valuable and to me is now a requirement before I buy any used Mercedes.
