Pulley Install Questions

I am going to try to install my ASP pulleys this week. I went ahead and bought the tool to hold the pulley off ebay. I am going to try to do the install from the top of the car w/o disassembling everything.

Does anyone have any tips on getting the pulley off? I assume getting the bolt out will be relatively easy but the headaches are going to start when I go to try to pull the pulley off the end of the crank. How bad is it going to fight back? Does anyone have any tips to remove it without taking off the fan and using a puller?

Also what items should I replace while I am in there? Should I replace the belt tensioner and the belt? Do I have to replace the damper bolt or can I reuse the stock one?

Lastly, does anyone know the torque settings for the water pump and idler pulley bolts?

Thanks,
Chuck

the pulley will come right off and when i installed my ASP pulley when i first purchased my C32 2 years ago, it went right on, very easy...

you should not have to replace anything other than what comes with the kit...the only thing i would suggest doing while you have it apart is replacing the belt if it has some mileage on it...otherwise you are good to go

let me know if you have anymore questions or give me a call

So the stock belt that is on the car now can be used with any aftermarket pulley set up? When you say some miles what would that be?

Thanks

yes, the stock belt on the car is used with every aftermarket pulley setup...if the belt has 40,000 miles or is looking worn, i would replace it...

The install went real easy. If I didn't have to run out to buy a 1/2" socket extension I would have been done in an hour. The pulley slid right off the end of the crank. I had visions of it not budging. Having the damper pulley holder made all the difference in the world. The whole job was done from the top and nothing had to come out. The hardest part was getting the crank pulley bolt out. It was super tight. It required 3 foot extensions on the breaker bar and the damper holder to break them loose.

FWIW, I would suggest you getting an aftermarket belt. If you drive the car hard, you might consider getting one. I've seen snapped belts. It's not to expensive to get an aftermarket belt. Try the GATES belts. They're pretty thick and strong. If you do get an aftermarket belt, make sure you get the exact size.

unless someone knows something that i don't...i researched this extensively about a year ago and came up with nothing but the factory offering, which i think is a Gates IIRC...

Thats what I'm coming across with the C32. Is it just because of the belt size?

Not sure if I am right on this, but the Gates belt are pretty close to the exact measurements for the E55... so I can't imagine them not having one for the C32... I could be wrong. What is the belt size for the c class? For the E55 I believe it's 51 1/4"... again don't quote me on it but I think that's the size.

In any case, good luck with it... let me know how it works out.

PS. try Jaguar belts. Hope that I could have been some help for you.
