Bad Day For The C32

Friday Rainy roads + some idiot turning into my lane = slip, slide, spin, BANG!

He took off of course. I wasn't able to get a tag number as the airbag exploding in my face blocked my view.

It's at the shop now. I'm just waiting to see if they total it. Suspension on the front right is trashed, so I'm thinking it will be spendy. State Farm is taking care of me though. They have me in a Nissan Armada for the time being.

Good thing I have GAP coverage, just in case they do total it.

Here are some pics:

thanks guys. Yeah, I didn't get hurt any. Just a little burn/abrasion from the airbag on my right hand/arm and cut my knuckle on my right hand somehow. I was a bit sore Friday night, but that's all.

I'm almost hoping they total it.

Sorry to see this. I'm glad you are OK.

And yes, it's look like it'll be totalled. Definitely over $15K in repairs.

not sure what I'll get if they total it. I'm leaning towards something 4x4. Maybe a Toyota Tacoma crew cab 4x4. Not sure I want a full size truck, but if I do it would be a Titan crew cab 4x4.

Either way, I'm not 100% sure yet.

Sorry dude, that's heartbreaking. I know the feeling.

I got mine back about a month ago with similar front end damage, the total was $13,500 and 90 days in the shop for this:

http://picasaweb.google.com/wcooley1...ey=TQeTWBitB70

My airbags didn't come out, so you can tack on some extra for that. I didn't have any damage behind the front wheels either, I assume the extra body panels are going to cost a ton.

Sorry to say I'm betting it's totaled, MB parts are just too expensive.

Just last week, some jerk in a huge pickup backed into my front end again. The resulting 3" crack in the bumper cover is going to cost his insurance company $1700.

i'm sorry to see/hear what happened, but it's not the worst that could've happened. chin up, man. i've had similar damage caused from an accident, it wont be totaled unless the frames bent. i've had to get a new hood, bumper, headlights, etc...and damages came out to about 8k.

You did a number on that wall! Considering the damange, the Benz did alright. Sorry for the loss, hopefully they'll total it. It would suck to have a permanent shimmy for the rest of its life.

Benz vs. wall = Victory for the Benz!

Glad to see you are OK. If they total it, I bet your parts will be all over ebay.

After a wreck like that, I would think that totaling it would be best.

I just called the shop and they are putting it up on the rack today to check it out so they can let the insurance company know something. He said more than likely it will be totaled but will know for sure later this week probably.

Hey, I'm glad to hear your OK! judging from the exterior, it really doesn't look like they will total it. In most states, frame damage would need to be above 50% damaged and the costs would need to be pretty close to the total price of the replacement car. I got hit in my last C320 similar to the way yours did, but on the drivers side and in between the door and the fender and no air bags went off. It was at the dealership for over 3 months and the bill came to over 19K. Car was not totaled. The guy who hit me was under insured and tried to run as well, however, I did not let him... I forced my door open got out and shouted at the driver to get the F#$& out of his car, and he panicked, throwing the car in reverse to back away. When I saw that I grabbed onto the bed of his truck and pulled my self in as he started to drive off. Witnesses behind me followed us till he pulled over. I was so enraged, I didn't know what had gotten into me.
The suspension system in our cars are mostly made from aluminum and is very soft. If anything they'll most likely change the shock towers, front sub frame, maybe the rear too if the wheel got really bent in, power steering rack and pinion, tie rod ends, bushings and the other small components too. looks like at least a week in paint and body work. Most of the time waisted in repairing my car was either getting the wrong parts, the car not being worked on half of the day or going back to tweak the fine details. Good luck with the gas mileage in the armada! I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

If yours was less damage than mine and the bill was $19k, why do you think they wouldn't total mine? That's 100% of the value of the car.

They will total a car for 2 reasons: Unsafe frame damage or if the repair will cost more than 60-70% of the cars value. Wholesale value is only about $17k-$19k.
