Check www.car-parts.com There is a place with an 2005 C55 engine and tranny for sale. Your looking at over 10k though....

Just dump the car... the value of the car is not worth it if you have to pay for a new engine & trans yourself. That's what I did with my C55 when the stupid dealer (South Bay MBZ in Torrance & Manhattan Beach) refused to fix my engine that was eating itself alive from the inside out. Oil analysis showed super high wear metals & the dealer wouldn't do anything about it.

wow that cost is serious. few posts up.. e bay had a motor on sale. dont know how ture the value of that motor is but it sure hell better than play 35k 
i just had tranny problem on my C55 the car only has 5,000 miles must i remind you i really dont drive the car hard often but when i drive it i dive it. besides that i woke up one morin to go to work the and noticed all my fluid was on my driveway floor. i started the car and nuttin but raddlein.. i was in shock i left it there till my appt but, i still drove it to the shop. it came out the dealer today and all went fine. they told me that they dident go in to the motor to fine out what really happen they said something about an overring gasket that was an recall it was replace and then fluid was toped out he also metioned if i run across any problems within the next 5000 miles be sure to return and be papared to wait cuz there going in.
well we just wait to see what happens ahhh!
AND ONCE I GET A LONER IAM FINE I GUESS. TILL THE SNOW SEASON IS ALL GONE

+3 on pushing for warranty coverage.
Hopefully you'll be luckier than I was & have a dealer that actually gives a cr*p about keeping a customer! The one's here in SoCal don't.
OTOH, going to MBZ is 50/50 at best. It was reported by my service advisor that the MBZ field rep/tech is the one that couldn't find anything to fix on my engine and made statements that my type of problems were "fuel source related & wouldn't be covered under warranty", even though the engine was ticking & falling apart from the inside out.

fyi engine costs
my c55 engine got water in it from going thru a puddle during a bad rainstorm. basically the engine was kaput afterwards. only 3k miles on the car. if i had all the money in the world, i'd go after merc for a bad design. the insurance company wanted a rebuild that FJ/merc will only warrant for 12k/1y. cost: 36k give or take. new engine with full warranty $45k give or take. after intensive losing my sh(* and pulling out the big guns with the insurance company, after almost 4 months, my car has been totalled. never even bothered thinking about replacing the engine with anything less than a fully warranted one.
my tranny was in perfect condition... should be showing up in some salvage yard soon in so cal, i'm guessing. i can give you the claims adjustor's info if you want to seek it out.
