Smile 2003 C32 Supercharger

The last few months I have been having a strange sound coming from the front of my C32. The best way to describe it was like hearing water running through pipes. As it began to get colder and colder here during the winter, the noise got louder and louder. But, after driving for 30 - 45 mins. the sound would blend into the rest of the normal engine noise. On warmer days, temps above 55 deg., the sound would also blend, and you could not hear it at all unless you were attuned to hearing it. I had also noticed power loss and lower miles per gallon.

Finally, I was able to leave it at MB overnight for them to test drive early the next morning when we new it would be cold outside. Immediately upon start up, they heard this loud nasty noise, drove it a block or two and verified that the supercharger was bad and replaced it. I was told by MB that they do not carry the same supercharger anymore that came with my C32, and that I would like this one much better.

My question is, has anyone else been told this, and have you noticed a substantial difference as well with the new supercharger?

I feel that I am getting back at least as much if not more power than I originally had. It feels like a new car, but with more power.

Snap a picture of the new supercharger and post the picture here. I'd be suprised if they did not carry the C32 supercharger anymore. Maybe your dealer had something else on the parts shelf that crossed over and used it instead of ordering one from Germany?

I'm glad your car is running better but honostly I've never heard of Mercedes changing the design of a part that they discontinued. The C32 stopped production in mid 2004 but I guess everything is possible.

Is this new supercharger an AMG supercharger as well, and does it look the same?

Did they change your IC pump or SC clutch also?

Originally, I hit some high water, and had to get a lot of the engine replaced. It took just over a month for MB to rebuild, they did order a lot of parts from Germany which contributed to the long rebuild time. I have long laundry list of parts they replaced that I need to see in order to let you know exactly what has been replaced. I will try to get pics. tonight so I can post.

A little off topic/ same realm

I know my S/C doesnt have a hand stamped data plate on it. Does that mean the S/C was replaced before or the plate just fell off? Thank You. Wait...is it only 2003 and later?

Also, BTW, this is now my 3rd supercharger. During the first 6 months of owning the car, the original started "squealing" (best way I can described the sound) and it was replaced by MB at no cost to me due to being under factory warranty.

That can't be true. You may also want to verifywith Lysholm as they make the SC for C32.

Well... the original sig. plate should've been from the person who built your AMG engine. A replacement S/C wouldn't have a laser-engraved sig.; logically that makes sense. Doesn't mean the part itself is in any way different from the original spec, though.

I'm 99% sure your s/c was replaced before. The original 02 S/C doesn't have a blank space on the center.
BTW, from time to time you can find the plate on ebay.de.

I should get one from "Joe American" with a US flag watermark or something at my MB dealership since he essentially rebuilt the engine. It just looks weird being blank. . . maybe he just is not as proud of his work as the Europeans. . .

RLPIII - you should ask the dealer to take the one from your old SC.

If they are clueless, give them PN 0002211001. That's what you need.

Good idea. . . I'll give them a call to see what they can do. MB in Plano, TX has been very helpful since I started going to them.

MB called this morning and said they were ordering me another plate.
So, it looks like I'll be getting it put back on when it comes in.
Thanks for the help.

When I had my supercharger replaced they just told me that they don't make new superchargers, they give you a re-built one and you have to give them your old one back (core) but same thing no plate on mine

I will re-check my bill, but I do believe they charged me for a FN (Factory New) supercharger. I better not have been given an AR (As Removed) or OH (Overhauled) supercharger. I was eluded to the design has changed, and this new one performs better than the old one that originally came with my car.
