cold air intakes on c55

I bought 2005 c55 amg couple months ago, and recently decided to do something to it. I'm just wondering if theres any cold air intakes or short ram intakes that's compatible with the c55, from the search I did online the only one I found was the B&B cold air intakes. any suggestion?

C55 allready has ram-air ctyle cold air intake.

If you replace it with E55 Kompressor air box, it will add around 10-12RWHP.

Really??? Does the E55 Kompressor air box even fit on the C55 engine??? The only aftermarket I know of that fits the C55 is the one from Renntech. The VRP airbox for the E55 does NOT fit the C55, as far as I know......please correct me if I'm wrong.

so the e55 kompressor air box fits?...hmmm mayb I'll get that, and I was also looking at air filters, but there were two kinds of air filters that I found one is k&n the other one is injen, and its weird how they look differently from each other, one is flat rectangular shape and the other one is like a universal cone? anyone know the differences? which one is better?...sorry for being a newb, my last car was c230 kompressor so I never thought about moding it, so I'm totally new

I believe the kompressor motor's airboxes fit w/ some minor modifications much like those of the c32 air boxes on the c320s.

IIRC, the stock y pipe from the kompressor motors can be used in combination w/ a small adapter to make it fit on the MAF of the non supercharged cars.

I was very interested in this post so I called My local MB dealer and spoke with someone in parts The E55 intake cost $590 thats with tax and the Y splitter included! Not bad compared to other mods. He was not sure it it would fit but he did say he gets odd questions like this all the time of people mixing parts form other AMG models. The only thing is will it fit and work?

Here is a picture on CLK500, with custom CF cover.

C55 is identical, you need to trim some tabs of Y-splitter. The rest is faily simple.

We sell 55 Kompressor air boxes with K&N filters for $549.

That ^^^^ will add 10-12 RWHP on a C55? I would love to see a dyno of this on a C55. If this is true I will be getting one soon!

This red "custom" carbon fiber cover/box shown here looks like someone layed a "stop sign" on top of the engine. I cannot believe someone actually paid to do that. But then again, everyone has different tastes...

I would also be very interested in seeing some real data, ie dyno results that show 10+ rwhp gains from using the E55 (or custom) airbox mod.

Is this gain because of the airbox itself, or because of replacing the stock air filters? I've already gained 9 rwhp by replacing my stock filters with K&N's, and I tend to think that's where the gain would come from in the air box replacement too.

Now, if you're saying there is an additional 10+ rwhp that could be achieved above and beyond the gains from the K&N's, then you'd be on to something.

Please provide further input. You've got me very curious.
Thanks,
J

Well said! That red thing look terrible IMO. Love to see a stock C55 with K&N's then this air box with K&N's on a dyno. if a gain was shown with E55 box over stock with K&N's I would buy one for sure and I'm sure other C55 owners would too.

On my C32, I gained +11 rwhp going from C32 air boxes with green filters to SL55 (Kompressor) air boxes with green filters, but my car was already stage 2, so I'm not sure how much effect that would have on this figure.

So this is made for a 55 Kompressor but also fits a C55 and CLK500? Does this mean it fits my E500 AS WELL?

So full SL55 full airboxes fit our C32 without modification? I don't want to take the middle part of the original engine cover off.

With all due respect, not even the one made by Renntech produces that rwhp imho. I have done plenty of dyno runs before and afters with most of the mods i have done so i know this for a fact, but then again you never know.

Why do you think Renntech's air box makes power? All they did is made CF rear cover that is 1'' taller.

Here is a dyno a C55 which already had K&Ns.

No, it required modifications of the engine cover and even more modifications when I later added the bigger SL55 tubes. However, George at Evosport did a very VERY EXCELLENT job at fitting the boxes just right that it looked almost 100% stock. I took it to the dealer a few times and they could NOT tell that I didn't have C32 air boxes. Both C32 and SL55 air boxes look identical in shape, color, and other characteristics except the SL55 ones are 20% larger

I haven't seen a dyno with just the RennTech air boxes, but I've personally seen the RennTech airboxes + ECU make +25 rwhp on the same car, same dyno with nothing else changed.

Believe me, most of the gains are just coming from the ecu tune.

I'd like to see and hear more about the E55 airbox on the C55. Vadim do you have more details about it and photos for off the counter product that you offer without customization?

Stock 55 Kompressor air boxes pretty much bolt right in. You will need to trim clips from the splitteer and use black tie wraps to put it all together with MAF.
