On a 8.5" rear, 255 is the absolute widest you want to go. Check the tire specs and they tell you recomended rim widths.

See yeah

Oh yeah, I have bridgstone 050 PP's 255's on mine and LOVE THEM

I think you would be ok. I am running 265/30/19 and I have one little spot that rubs so I think 255's should be ok.

265 with rounded side walls is the widest most go and 255 w/o rounded side walls.

Im pretty sure i read of someone on here who had 275s w/ drag radials.

Doesn't wider tire cause the tire to wear out faster? Also how does wider than recommended tire affect turning at high speeds?

I have 275/30/19 in the rear with 9.5x10 wheel and it's fine even after lowering springs. No rubbing at all with two people in the back. Haven't try three people in the back tho.

So if you stick with the stock rims looks to be 255's. I know you mentioned you wanted to maintian the same height. I am assuming you mean sidewall height? If that is the case the 255's on the stock rim are going to be a thicker sidewall than what you have now with the 245's. I was going to go 255's myself but decided after looking at the increase in the sidewall I decided to stay with 245's. Kind of wish now I went with the 255's as they do look wider.

How does the car handle with wider tyres in the rear? Does it worsen the understeer?

How much wider can you go at the front?
