178 MPH .......No Prob

So I finally picked up the C32 from the shipper yesterday. It took over a month. Anyway, on the way home I wanted to verify that my ECU's electronic limiter was deleted. I was following the Frau (wife) in her C230. Once we got to an open stretch I nailed it. Acceleration was awesome especially past about 120MPH. Hit 140, car is pulling hard, 160, am I really going this fast, 170, damn this is a pretty smooth running car for an 02, 175, vehicles up ahead in the distance, 178, shut 'er down before you plow into someone. The car felt super smooth. I didnt feel any play in steering wheel, no shimmies or knocks. The brakes felt on point, even though I need new rotors. I think I could have squeezed out a couple more MPH maybe 185. There was no lack of power even at high speeds. Taking her in for a service today to welcome her to Germany with fresh Mobil 1 0w30. I am so FU$%ING happy my car is here. Thanks to everyone within the forum for support. I am still planning on going to the main Carlsson shop shortly and taking pictures and I WILL RUN HOCKENHEIM. Oh yea the limiter is removed. Thanks for watching.

It would be interesting to see what your top speed would be. A video of that attempt would be awesome

Military. There are cameras on every corner over here even on the Autobahn.

c3232c- I knew someone was going to ask that. I already have an idea. Get three cameras. One facing the road- One on the driver- One on the display. Picture in picture setup. That would be sweet.

Keeping the rest of us safe!

And, my friend, we thank you for it! Great write-up - anxiously awaiting your tales of hockenheim and some factory visits

i'ne pegged my stock limiter a few times and it's amazing how the c32 keeps accelerating at higher speeds.

the biggest detriment is coefficient of drag and our cars have some of the lowest out there at (Cd) 0.27.

guys make sure you have appropriate tires if you're trying this. this means Y rated tires, undamaged and properly inflated.

true!!!, tire rating and condition is very often overlooked and by far the most important thing to consider when going that fast! id much rather have a blown engine than a blown tire at 170+(hope i didnt just jinx myself)

That would be Badazz!! With your mods maybe you could set the bar for the top speed in a C32. Plus giving us video would let us all live a little bit of than run. Speaking of camera's, I wish I had a copy of the picture of me running a red light in Berlin, Nothing like being caught with a sh@t eating grin on your face

Hey German32er,

I set the pressure as per the inside of the fuel cover. Tires are good. My tires are ZR rated.

Looks like that is the highest mph out there. And that one was posted on youtube. I wonder if our speedometers go higher than 300kph ??

well we can't go faster than redline in 5th. changes in rear tire diameter will alter top speed a bit i think + 4 mph for 265/30-19 vs stock 245/40-17. c32 top speed computes to 184 mph @ 6220 rpm with 265s.

the formula is (RPM/ gear ratio X final drive) X rear tire circumference in miles x 60.

when the c32 came out i read somewhere that the factory was able fit a lower FD for german customers.

ZR ain't good enough unless it's a Y rated ZR. here's some info from Tire rack. in fact I'd say you (we) need a (Y) rated tire. you (we) will not survive tire failure at 186 mph.

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.

W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars

While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.

225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h

Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:

285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h

As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.

du kannst dich ja mal in unserem I-net auftritt umsehen -> http://www.amg-owners-club.de/

evt. hast du ja lust so etwas mitzumachen?!?!
die 1/4 meile geschichte ist hierzulande nicht so sehr verbreitet.

war jetzt viel text, ich hoffe die "markenkollegen" die mich nicht verstehen können verzeihen mir......... so much text i can`t translate, sorry.......

From Babel Fish

well supi, into German do I substantially more easily sindelfingen is approx. 20km south of Stuttgart. I thought sindelfingen am " begriff" for more mercedesfahrer, there the largest Daimler is assembly plant of the world. I work there, however I do not have anything with the products to add directly, I exclusively work on production machines, and am responsibly for it this their work to perform to be able. as you could see on German roads are the C32 a quite rare vehicle, which will probably not more change. the AMG variants is very expensive here zulande, and for that " normalbürger" actually payable, also do not running costs are due to the high fuel and insurance-praise also in regions it make for such a vehicle not easy its own to call. where are you stationed?? meet is certainly feasible, I am member in the AMG Owner club, evt. it is possible you " with one; stammtisch" or a club meeting as " gast" welcome being allowed. you can do you times in ours I-net arise look around - > http://www.amg-owners-club.de/ how long will you be here?? I would like this year in any case once again to " become green hölle" (nürburgring), however is not with all obligations (family, job, etc.,) always simply in addition-get. are more einigeclubmitgleider is rainmoderately there, there eigenlich always in front seat passenger place free, if one did not like to drive. probably there is this year still another drift training over the club, and/or registers I over my well-known from the BMW-M range at such a training. evt. you have to take part in desire such a thing?!?! the 1/4 mile history is not so much common in this country. now much was text, I hopes " markenkollegen" me to understand cannot to me forgive

Lets try this

My translation:

Hey buddy,
German is easier to speak for me.
I live 20KM from Stuttgart.
Sindelfingen is a popular place for Benz drivers because it is the biggest factory in the world that makes Benz parts.
I work there. I fix the machines that make Benz parts.
C32 AMG's are very rare in Germany and expensive because of the power and insurance. Its difficult for normal people to own them.
Meeting you is possible. I am a member of the AMG owners club. We can have you participate as a guest or in an event.
You can check out our website.
How long are you going to be here?
This year I will be driving on the Green Hell at Nuerbergring but with all the commitments like work and family it is difficult. Some members of the AMG club will be there. There is always a seat open to ride if you dont want to drive your vehicle.
Maybe we will have drift training this year with the club or if not I will go with my BMW M buddies. Maybe you would like to come?
We dont do alot of 1/4 mile racing here although there is some.
Alot of writing here in German, I hope everyone understands.

I wont be doing that again for a while until I get Y rated tires. Mine are only W rated. Thanks for the INFO. It was fun but risky.
