Wife has 03 C32, 72k, black on black, usual options, CD changer, no navi. Fully serviced with extended wtty and new tires. The only extras are tinted windows and hard-wired Escort. Car in great condition, and is driven mostly hwy due to her work commute therefore hood and front bumper have some rock chips. Any help on value retail and trade would be welcome.

Actual Kelley Blue Book (not online) trade in value is around $13k-$14k. Selling it private party is around $20k. If you went to buy the car today, it retails for around $22k-23k Obviously you're going to take the hardest hit if you trade it in and selling it private party can be a pain in the a&% and can take a very long time (especially in this economy) If you don't mind taking the hit, trade it in and be done with it, or if you're not in a rush, try selling it on autotrader, craigslist, ebay, etc...and see what happens.

Thanks. Trying to sell the car is just too much work and usually not worth the time. I am guessing that we will just trade it...

Don't trade cos they'll screw you at one end or the other. Sell it to a dealer (less cash but much easier than private) or Carmax though Carmax seem to pay low so try a dealer.

That being said it's a great car so consider keeping it

32's are worhtless in $$ value, that is why iam keeping my. GL with ur sale or trade in.

That seems to be the concensus - problem is that SHE wants new C63 and WE still owe some money on the C32 b/c I thought it was going to be around for another year...HA

the reason they loose value is cuz they suck. no one likes them and they are problematic and expensive to maintain. and they dont come in manual.

My experience is Carmax pays the most, with the term "most" being relative as they're not going to give you too much more than trade-in value. Advantage is it's easy and fast, and you'll get more than if you just trade it in. It also makes the new car buying process easier as the dealer can't play off the value of your used car as part of the smoke and mirror game.

I doubt an average dealer is going to want to buy a car outright with no trade unless it's extremely low mileage and a very desirable model. That's not the case here though you could try it.

No appointment necessary for Carmax. Just bring it in and they'll take a look at it and tell you what they'll give you for it. The entire process takes about 30-60 minutes. If you don't sell them your car that day, they'll honor the price for 7 days (call Carmax to make sure the info I just provided it accurate) If you do sell them your car, you walk out with cash in hand.
