2 Dark Smoked Tail light Problem
New to MB family...just got my c55 a few weeks and finally got pulled over twice in two nights for having "no tail light" even though it's there. Any thoughts on what I can do? I don't want to replace them b/c I loved them but I'm tired of getting pulled over and showing them that I do actually do have lights! I have to admit they're a bit hard to see at night...

Well, you could wait until you get rear ended and replace them then with your own cash if your insurance fins out that the person that hit you claims they did not see your lights.
I have tinted lights - but they are a tint - how were your lights tinted? I only have mine as dark as an OEM set up...not jet black, there is a lot of red in my light.
You don't have you CHMSL tinted do you?
Good luck!
Jake

Mine's pretty jet black. I'm not sure how it was tinted but assume that it was probably sprayed on by the dealership where they had bought it. I wonder if there's a higher intensity bulb that can put in that would do the trick?

my lights are about that dark I have had several police agencies behind me and not do a thing. The law here is that they have to be visible from at least 300 feet in daylight.

If they are a spray on tint over the exterior of the plastic what you can do is buy some very fine grit wet sandpaper and sand them down a bit until you get to the desired color..

Mountlake Terrace?! My old stomping grounds! I'm gonna be keepin' an eye out for your car now... we'll see if they are too dark in person. :P
Time for new not-so-dark lights Why hasn't anyone opened up these tail lights and painted the inside reflective surfaces as opposed to painting/tinting the lenses? It would keep the lights dark while light that passes through the colored lenses would still be their original colors...

Thanks!
I do all of my own work - hanging out with my dad...these are sprayed - over the real OEM part - it is a clear coat based Du Pont system using ChromClear and Hollywood tints along with Du Pont tints. I can wax, buff, clay bar and get the same reflection that the paint finish has.
I use SATA guns, take a long time to prep and tape and then bake it all in a hot box at 140 for 40 minutes...
I would NOT take a tail lamp apart to tint the inside when you can finish the exterior so easily.
Thanks,
Jake

Hate to say it guys, BUT why would you ever want to "attract" more attention to yourself than the Benz, particularly an AMG, already does??? My client LEO's tell me that they always look for the following:
1. Coffee can exhaust (both loud and obvious)
2. Tints (windows, lenses etc); Particularly dark ones (whatcha hidin dere boy??)
3. Wheels, yes those DUBS and larger
Why would you ever want to drive an already high performance car and draw more attention to yourself. Ever heard of flying under the radar?
Funny thing is, they look MORE for these above than they do for the guys running "equipment" like radar detectors.
I'm not saying I don't like the mods, BUT its like the old saying, "The RED car always gets the ticket."
