Pics: Code3 Heat Exchanger and Johnson CM30 Pump

Thought I would share my ongoing install of the Code3 HE and Johnson Pump from LET. The HE lined up perfectly with the oe reinforcement bolts. Following along Splinter's LET HE DIY post, I used my floor jack to keep my HE lifted. I rotated the upper hose clamps out of the way and zip tied the hose in place.

As for the Johnson pump, I retrofitted the original connector on the new pump and soldered the wires. I used the clamp that came with it and installed the original Bosch clamp on top of that -nice tight fit. Enjoy the pics!

You cant see it in this pic.. but the Johnson bracket is underneath.

Question

Hey I had to secure my Johson pump so did you? If you get a small hard to trace leak check the clamps at the JP.

Get it up to WOT several times in Virginia’s debilitating summertime heat and kindly share your findings.

Hey C32used.. yep Its secure even though it doesnt look like it. I will try to get some better pics of the inner Johnson bracket. I will be wrapping this up tomorrow after my coolant bleed and will check for leaks. I need to get her back on the road!

Good stuff razormb! Install looks great.

Not sure, but I think what c32used might have been referring to is the hose connections with the Johnson pump... not the mounting bracket. The OEM pump inlet and outlet pipes are slightly larger in diameter, and consequently the hoses are as well. Those slip-fit hose clamps that MB used aren't the greatest... so if you find any minor coolant leakage near your Johnson pump, that's probably where it's coming from.

When I did my install (at the advice of LET), I "upgraded" 4 of the hose clamps (two on Johnson, two on HE) to the screw-type clamps, for a much more secure fitment. YMMV... it might not ever be an issue that you have to deal with. IMHO, it's a worthwhile "ounce of prevention" step, while you still have the PITA bumper off...

I believe the new version has the angled end-tanks you see in the picture - old version had rectangular end tanks. Not sure if there are any other differences, though.

Priceless information! Yea -I thought C32used was referring to the brackets not the hose clamps. I'm going to double up with the screw clamps today. I'm sure even though they feel tight now they may slip over time. Thanks

Very good advice...did the same myself (Jerry from LET was helping) Plus it makes it a ton easier if you have to remove as getting a pair of plyers in that area is more difficult than a drill with a socket attachment!

Ok doubled up with the screw-type clamps... there was plenty of surface area left to include them. Heres a shot of what it looks like now.

Heres a shot of the inner bracket paired up with outter bracket.

According to C3 Website the new one uses the Spearco core. I believe this is the new one but I will double check with Brandon.
