If the visual portion of the test could still present a problem, it'll be a simple task to swap the OE setup back in come test time. With the glut of unused C32 airboxes soon to be available, I suspect their value on the resale market will be drastically diminished. I’ll be keeping mine for just those reasons.
I just had my smog check done a few week back and couldn't believe how clean these toys are. I ask alot of 'what if I did this or that's' and was told what I want to hear. Pretty nice fellow if you ever need a 'good guy' for future reference.

The one thing I dont like is the filters. I think he should have put some k&n cone filters on it.

These are actually a ton better. Instead of playing with oiling and stuff every x months, just replace for $20 a filter!

+1, agree w/ loungn14

Although, if it really bothers anyone - keep in mind, you could probably "mod" the LET intake with whatever universal 3" filter you'd prefer instead IMHO, the gains/results should be roughly identical - so why bother? But that might just be me...

I do wonder if the HKS 2-ply wet filter is any different from their new 3-ply dry filter, performance-wise... anyone know?

What about having the filter in the tube and keep the cooler air being pulled right to it from the front of the car vs pulling in the hot air from the engine area? Would it make any difference?

Probably wouldn't have enough airflow, due to insufficient filter surface area - just a guess on my part, though.

In talking with LET, the hotter air from the engine bay would be a minimal issue at low speed (e.g. stop and go traffic), but pretty quickly you're getting more than enough cooler air through the grill, which is where the filters are pulling their air from.

The intake imo will work great...the C32 suffers from heat soak regardless and unless you have a chiller tank or nitrous(going thru the TB) it will heatup eventually even with an upgraded H-E...but it won't be the intakes fault....where the filters are as long as the hot engine air is being forced back(which higher speed does) the hot engine air should not affect it at all or much imo... I personally like this intake idea...

I was going to run ITG air filters with mine but they are longer than the HKS so I dont think they will work unless I jam them in.

One thing I noticed, in looking more closely at Jerry's and Newzchspy's pics of the intake - the metal panel welded to the tubes, which aesthetically cleans up the look of the intake (especially when the stock engine cover is used) - doesn't seem to necessarily always line up quite right. It got me thinking - could the inside edge of those plates have tabs extending downward, so that the intake hooks into the same holes the stock airbox clips to? That way you'd always have a consistent alignment... anyway, just a thought

Sorry genome, been asking for 8 years now with my 55!! Unless you SC up and get a Kleeman and some exhaust work, there's not much to be done!! NOS works too

I think you misunderstood... if you look at this picture:

https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...5&d=1220541061

I'm simply pointing out that the black plates aren't parallel with your intake plenums. IMHO, it would look more 'polished' if they were.

One way for LET to rectify this in their design would be adding metal tabs extending downward from the inside edges (i.e. plenum side) of the plates, hooking into the same oval slots that the factory airboxes clip into. This would ensure a parallel alignment with the plenums, and would be a very minor design change to implement - perhaps something for LET to consider on a subsequent production run, if they deem appropriate.

Personally, if the plate isn't aligned with the plenum (and consequently, the front cover), I'd say just leave it off. The whole purpose is to improve the looks - if it's crooked, it doesn't achieve that IMHO... if anything it detracts from it.

That said, the alignment from Jerry's pics appears to be pretty much perfect, so maybe this was just on your set, since you had a one-off with smaller tubing...? In the end, it was just an idea I had, which I felt like offering - it certainly won't hurt my feelings if no one else feels the same way... the important thing is that the intake works, and from the initial feedback, it sounds like it works well
