PS: This was bought while the car was STILL under warrenty, which they did say lower the rate ALOT.

I read that the C55 is built like a tank. Engine is strong and it has no superchager to cause problems. Is the C55 that reliable?

Hey Chris:

IMHO, it is NOT the motors that you have to watch out for my friend. Quite frankly I have NEVER heard of one of them going south. The reality is, it is all of those wonderful electronic gadgets that go bad, some of them frequently I might add. Anyway, I personally would NEVER own a Mercedes without an extended warrenty for just this reason. By the way, after owning BMW's, they are in the same boat as us, and I would HIGHLY recomend one to them as well.

PS: I do ALL of my own DIY, but its the parts that are so outragous that you really need the warrenty to keep your head above water, IMHO.

I am looking at a C55 with 25k miles, I can get upto 3yr warranty up to 100k miles, is it worth it
how high is the maintaince of the AMG models compared to the regular cars.

NO, my coverage is bumper to bumper. That is crucial with all of our lovely electronics my friend.

can't speak to the mercury type aftermarket warranties except that they typically leave open the possibility of using non OEM parts (perhaps a practical impossibility with AMG cars) and refurbished parts.

the CPO or ELW (extended limited warranty) from MB is not 'bumper to bumper' like the factory warranty. there are exclusions. things not covered i can think of (for example): dimming rear view mirror (circa a grand for the part), radio problems....

i would likewise never own one of these cars off warranty. yeah the engines never blow, but that's not really ever a problem.
