Code 3 Pulley issues

I installed the Code3 Pulley the other weekend, and have good power (thanks Brandon!) My only issue is that when I tried to remove the old pulley it was not as easy as indicated on their website. I had to bang and bang and bang the hell out of the old pulley with a large screw driver as the wedge and a heavy mallot. I almost nearly killed myself trying to remove this thing! Then once off , I had to then pound the new Code3 pulley back on (again, no indication of this in the instructions) with the soft side of the heavy mallot until reasonably seated. I installed the SC bolt, and everything else in reverse order. Now I have strange noises coming from the engine bay (random clicks and clanks) usually around cold startup, but also during random takeoff and idle. I know that I have a slight warp somewhere between the Puuley, the shaft, the SC clutch, etc..., but don't know what to do about it. I certainly don't want to go through pounding the heck out of this pulley to remove it and re-install it (with a new shim) if I don't have to.

Big question: Is there a recommended puller to use to remove/install these SC pulley's (like most other SC pulleys) properly? Also, What should I do about the slight wobble/rub?

doesnt sound like a pulley issue. if the first one came off easy, and the other would not go on ,then maybe...sounds like you have a different problem

i dont have any answers for your questions, except i had a little trouble removing mine and putting the code3 one as well and did similar things as you. i think its car specific. it is supposed to be easy though. i dont have any of the noises you hear though.

I helped a friend put one on and had the same problem. Had to use the same gentle persuasion of a rubber mallet to get it off as well. We also noted that the components/engine was hot and the pully was cold which could have played into it.

We didnt have any sounds afterwords though....

We sometimes see such an issue with cars that have higher mileage. With a little elbow grease everything is usually perfect.

Shoot me an PM back with your best contact number and Brandon will contact you.

Any insight on a "Pulley puller/installer" to make installation easier? What do I do about the slight rub? (additional shim?) It is actually only on one area of the SC clutch (slight wobble). I initially tried to pry the pulley off (thinking that it would be easy to knudge) using a large flat head screw driver between the space between the SC clutch and the original pulley using the mallot.

Should I just try to use a wheel hub puller to try this out?

I was first to install on retail level. Install was easy (about 30 minutes). Ate the M & Ms that came with it while I installed it. My car only had 23,000 on it at time. Been working great since June 2008.

Probably better to do BOTH pulley and removal while cold. Things are not as tight.

When you installed the new pulley, you MUST tilt it downward then up and it slips right on. If you try to just slide it on, you will not be able to- I suppose the tolerance is so good, that's what gives it the OEM fit. That's my take.

would be easier if you pull off the hose on the right side too.

You can't blame Code3 for the tight fit; remember, he uses a stock bearing, so it will fit exactly as the stock one did as far as shaft / bearing clearance. If your stock pulley was tough to get off, the Code3 pulley should be tough to get on. Mine took some work, but I did it while the engine was hot. Let it cool down and it should be a little easier.

i've been trying to install my code 3 pulley i recently purchased. I got to the part where i need to take off the pulley bolt. I tried use that rubber pad while putting pressure on the pulley to try to turn the bolt.

it looks like the pulley is stuck or i can't seem to apply enough pressure to stop the pulley from moving while i turn the 12mm bolt.

Does anyone know a easier way to remove the bolt? or keep the pulley from moving?

I can say now that your OEM SC pulley is no good and will need replacement if you plan to reuse it again...hopefully cause you had to force the C3P SC pulley it wasn't ruined either.

Just get a strapwrench and its a 10 min job.

If the engine is hot place the pully on the supercharger for 10-15 to warm it up...(metal expand/contract stuff)

i also used a strap wrench. made it a much easier job. also, with regards to any difficulty taking off the stock pulley, it depends on how old it is. i had one on for as long as i have owned the car (5 yrs) and it was difficult to take off. i got it replaced and it was much easier to take off. also, when the car is hot, it is more difficult to take the pulleys on and off because of expansion caused by heat.

Cool

Never had a problem installing the C3pulley. It just slid in with a very slight interference fit!! I used the stock shims already installed.
Turning the bolt off it took abit of a struggle. I should have thought of that strap wrench. Definitely a two man jobber.
One detail though.
The main flange that needs to clear the clutch was out of parallelity. In otherwords, the flange wobbled hitting the clutch. I marked the spot and gave a few light wacks opposite the direction of the wobble with a ball peen hammer. Had I gotten extra shims, I may not have had to do that. There is now a 1.0 to 1.5 mm gap.

ok i got the wrench strap and i was able to he-man it off in about 15min. That bolt was still stubborn as hell...i guess 6yrs of heat and dirt will do that.

I was able to replace the pulley without any problems. Question for you guys that install it. I'm having trouble getting the belt on. I'm trying to slide it onto the middle pulley just below the sc pulley. Is there a more efficient way of putting it back on or do i just have to he-man it on? I figure it would have more slack then stock since the pulley is smaller but i guess not. Seem like i'm really short on slack.
