MAF sensor failure

MAF sensor failure
so i was leaving the dealership after a nice car wash. I got on it hard, and the car acted a little weird, seemed like a mis-shift. I continued to drive for a bit and when coming to a stop, the car lunged forward, this continued for the next 10 minutes. While descending down a hill the car stalled. In 4 years i have never had any mechanical issues. Ended up taking the car back to the dealership for service and i was later told that my MAF sensor failed. My service attendant said that it was because of the green filters. Has anyone had any issues? These are new filters and have not been re-oiled. Thankfully i have an extended warranty and the service guy was cool to me, saying that he made it a warranty repair, knowing that the filters could have cost me. Anyway i thought i would share that.... and maybe get some feedback.

i say its bull $h*t unless you can prove that enough oil got out the air filters, into the air box (coating it) and got all over the inside of the MAF coating the wire inside and deep frying itself to death. This can happen to many vehicles that utilize a MAF sensor directly behind the air filter. In the case of your engine, that would need to take all the oil out of the filter and then some to get through that large box, past the baffles and hit the MAF. I use green filters and have not seen the oil move out of filters ever. I have used K&N, and other types before and have seen the oil in the K&N so saturated that even the box was wet. That filter can cause problems if the filter is over oiled. You may have had a good amount of water from the car wash pushed through the ram air ducts behind the grill and sucked up through the filters and box and hitting the sensor.

im thinking that will be more the reason why, so i do agree with you on that Calimax. Fortunately again i didn't have to pay for it, but i thought the reasoning was odd. I think once they found the filters they stopped looking for the reason.

least you got a new maf out of the deal.Had you been off warranty a cleaning with crc brand maf cleaner would have fixed the issue in most cases and if it ever happens off warranty only 200 bucks and 10 minutes to replace

Get some CRC "Mass Air Sensor" cleaner and some 91 ispropyl. Take out the MAS, spray some CRC cleaner on it, then go back with 91% isopropyl, pour it on the sensor, then gently clean with some Q-tips, put it back in after it has dried. Do pedal ECU reset and car will drive like new... (you just saved $350+)

Man...! I did wonder where the MAF sensor on his C55 was located???

brand maf cleaner.
this is like dueling maf cleanersnever use alcohol nor touch any part of the inside of the maf with anything but the spray.The tiny thermistor is very sensitive to any contact and a Q tip has ruined many a good maf.If cleaning it is going to do the trick,the crc alone will do it.Usually in response to a p0170 and a p0173 obd2 code.If it is showing a p0100 code just check if it is plugged in and if it is, pronounce it dead and order a new one.
The NA M113 engine uses a $167 maf that takes 10 minutes to replace and we've had members charged $880 for part and labor.That's why they are called the stealership.
