How many of you used drag radials to break into 12's

hey fellas I attended the 1/4 mile drags on Sunday yesterday, nice day temperature was 20 C (68 F), fully loaded with code3 goodies, i expected to break at least 13 flat.

However, i was kinda disappointed with my time of 13.45 s @ 109 mph, i got slower time than my stock time of 13.43 s @ 105 mph.

I suspected traction was the problem, with my stock car, the car just grips and launched. With the code3, i was getting wheel spin all the way until 2nd gear.

how many of you guys have boost mods but use street tires to achieve 12s? or do you always use drag radials to break 12s?

I have never gone to track since we don't have one here, but have done some runs on street with a G-tech. Street are fairly flat since I get very much same time back and ford. I have code 3 pulley and intake, plus a custom intake. Best run 60': 2.17s, 60mph: 4.68s, 1/4m: 13.27s 107.68mph(repeatedly 13.3). This 1/4m should have been a bit quicker since I have to brake it early due to the road. I believe I can do better with practices. If I can bring 60' down to 1.9s like some other, then 1/4 should be 13.0x-13.1x something . Again, this is on G-tech/street.

With 13.45s 109mph, I think you spin the wheels a LOT That is why you have high speed but low time.

Definitely agree with the second part... launching modded M112K's is difficult, no question. If you get some DR's, though, it seems like you'll make life a lot easier for yourself off the line - I've been seriously considering a set myself, for that very reason.

However, I will say that loungn14's ET of 12.4x on street tires is borderline crazy for a C32 (in a good way)... AFAIK, there is only one other C32 that has achieved that level of success on street tires, all motor (fongflex's car IIRC). For example (from what I gather from MBW info) Jerry is an EXCELLENT driver, and I believe his heavily modded C32 achieved 12.4x WITH nitrous AND drag radials.

care to share your technique?

i did the usual powerbrake and 1500 rpm, if i stomp on it it will just spin wildly, so i tried to feather the throttle lightly but still no improvement (still spins)

i just checked my tires, they were about 50% left could this be the problem?

I use street tires. This is what I've been able to do as far as 60' times:

1.9x on 245/35-18 (Pirelli P-Zero Rosso w/ 23 psi at about 50*F)
1.8x on 245/40-17 (Firestone Fusion w/ 21 psi at about 55*F)

This was last year, so exact temps and tire pressures may be a little off. I was able to run 12.8 at 108 on both wheel / tire combos incidentally. I have several more mods now, so we'll see if I'm still able to launch this well when I go back; hopefully very soon.

You gotta work on the feathering. A tiny amount of spin and your off. The 50% is definately not helping. If your still having issues, then get yourself a set of drags.

Practice,practice,practice....................

Even with DRs I couldn't best the times done on street tires! There was a noticable traction gains with the DRs but I always ended up lower times then street tires.......
