Question 8.5 quart in engine and still warning!

Hello Guys, i just changed my engine oil with 8.4 quarts and the warning oil light still pops up asking me to reduce oil!!!! I even started the car in dyno mode and measured the oil level and it reads 8.5!!! How many quarts does this thing take? Should i pump some oil out even if the computer reads 8.5 in it?

Looks like you went about .5 quarts too much. Pump it out.

Hey hold on a sec...Did you drain both sump plugs or only 1? If you only did 1 ( in the front) then you over filled the thing. If you did 2 plugs then you might have the oil level sensor changed. I had this issue with my C55. The IDIOT MORON MOTHERFU@#KER son of a DONKEY MBTECH put 10 quarts in my car when my sensor went south. He didn't know the extent of my ocd's that I pulled out a dip stick when I picked the car up from service. Boy ohh boy they heard me scream when I saw how much oil was inmy car. I'm trying to make a cheap dip stick for C55 for us to check our own oil.

for most people its about 8. Best rule of thumb is just to put in the exact amount you take out using the pump.

Why did the manual say we use 8.5? How many quarts do you use?

if you do it the pump way...keep in mind you don't get all the oil out. Some of it still stays in the engine. Hence...what i meant but only put in, what you take out. Last time i did it, i only took out 7.5qts.

I used the drain plug for each oil change. the DYNO computer reads 8.5 quart at level.

If the computer is telling you to remove some oil, I would do it, no matter how sure you are that the 8.5 is correct. As stated before, you should put in exactly what you took out. My dyno screen usually says I have 7.5 to 7.9 quarts. I have never had the add oil warning come on. Don't mess with an overfill. Better to be just under than just over.

I start with 7.5 and let the computer tell me what to do from there. Usually ends up being 8.2 with both plugs drained.

Easier to add then take away......reverse of sawing wood!

I drain the oil from the plug. Manual says 8 qrts. I put in 7.75 and its on the full line. Why risk pumping the oil out

I would get the proper mercedes dipstick with the "mm" reading, trust me the "oil level sensor" is not always accurate. If you want to know 100%, use a dipstick, can't always trust what the electronic level sensor says, they fail very often and can be inaccurate with oil sludge built up on them.

I have a MB dip stick which I use to read the oil level on my car. I'm trying to make a Stainless steel one that will be cheap so I can make then for the member of this frorum.

As for the Royal Purple please make sure that you know alot about oil before you make comments. I take great care in my car and I use this oil beacuse it has more pf the phosphorous(the good stuff) than mobil1 read up on sl and sm rated oils. However..I respect your opinion to use oil that MB recomends.

The proper level can be easily verified without having to rely on electronic hieroglyphics.

As measured through the dipstick tube with the engine off, up from the bottom of the sump:

There's 2 bolts? Are you sure its only for the C55? I only saw 1 bolt in the back the last time i changed the oil.
