C55 0-60 times - what's your best?

Best 0-60 times I can get out of my C55 are in the low 6 second range. This is a stock C55, sticky tires, traction control off, tranny in sport, 70 degree day on concrete road with good grip. Most car mags who tested the car reported 0-60 times just under 5 seconds. Are these "professional driver on a closed course, do not try this at home" performance results, or can a stock car and a normal driver expect to regularly hit sub-5 times with this car?

Can other C55 owners do some runs, post some times, and help me figure out if I've got motor problems?

I'm using a hand-held stopwatch. PM me if you've got any not-too-expensive ideas about how to get reaction time out of the equation and get more accurate times.

Thanks in advance for the help!

+1. 1 second too quick or too slow. Get a G-Tech at least.

Don't laugh but, if you have an iPhone, go buy Dynolicious for $13. It has been tested by several 3rd-party experts to be highly accurate. It was proven to be much more accurate than the G-Tech in the drag strip.

It is hard to believe that it could work, without being hooked up to your car, but it worked for me. It will be much more accurate than the stopwatch.

With a Beltronics Accelerometer, my best 0-60mph time was 4.67 seconds. Only modification is Renntech CF Airbox with K&N Filters, and with Michelin PS2 tires.

With stock airbox, filters, and stock Pirelli PZero Rosso rubber, my best time with the same device was 4.8-4.9 seconds (I can't remember exactly).

PC - I'm gathering data for a discussion with AMG about performance of a new motor in my car. What you sent is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for, and the notes on method, mods and tires really helps. Thanks a million.

One data point isn't enough to build a case on. I'd really appreciate 0-60 times from any other C55 owners.

I'm not sure if this is the type of evidence you are looking for but Car and Driver, MotorTrend and Road and Track all peg it at around 4.7seconds I believe. Oh, and then there's the now infamous (at least on this board) Edmunds article where they got 5.4 seconds to 60 and "blast down the quarter-mile in 13.8"

Wawy - is that 5.1 to 60 mph or 5.1 to 100 kph? I thought Mercedes billed these as 4.9 second 0-60 cars. Am I mistaken?

I've been through all the magazine tests. "Other parties" suggest that these are professional drivers on closed courses, and that I should not be surprised if I can't duplicate sub-5-second times. That's why I'm hoping for some help from other real-world owners.

And Edmunds was worse than you remember: "The raw numbers came in at 5.6 seconds for the 0-60 dash and 13.95 for the quarter." Bad . . but still better than low sixes . . .

Please, clock your cars and post some more times!

I don't have a c55 but I've done many 0-60 runs in my c32 and can tell you that getting a variance of 1 second or more is very easy depending on launch/grip/road surface etc

just for the record I use a racelogic box to time my runs, it uses GPS so it's very accurate and it's also the preferred equipment of most if not all the car magazines.

my best run to date was a 4.3 , but this was on a downhill slope so I don't count it,

On a flat surface with a drag style 1 foot rollout I'm getting fairly consistent 4.9/4.8's

timing straight of the line I can't seem to beat 5 seconds and mostly get low 5's,..... mostly 5.2's/5.1's but I have had a 5.0

I'm pretty sure that with the right launch and on a grippy surface the car is more than capable of hitting mid to high 4's but I've also found that even a slightly bad launch or poor road surface can put you into the high 5's or even low 6's

considering the 1 foot rollout knocks close to half a second of my time I've often wondered if any of the mags use his method when timing, or do they all just time from the off

Incidentally when Autocar tested the C55 back in 04 they managed I believe a 5.2 to 60 but this was on a damp patch of road which in reality probably equates to more like mid to high 4's on a dry road surface

Actually I think it might be a Canadian brochure I have so yes it would be KPHs then......

Dunno about your car but it's much faster than my modded 996 that would do sub 4.9 0-60.

I have a C32 ( I know, you want C55) but the calculator says that on my qtr mile run 12.7 at almost 110, my 0-60 was 4.31 on that run.

Not too shabby.....

with my quarter at 12.3 at 115mph with a 8.03 1/8 at 90.3mph shows that i had a 3.6 0-60???

just proves your car is slow glen....

0-60 is difficult to be repeatable....
and can be hard on the transmission and axles etc. I much prefer to measure performance from 60 to 130MPH - always assuming you can find somewhere safe to exercise.
