I have been looking for some replacement front rotors for the C32. My main goals are to find something that (1) is lighter than stock, (2) is not huge $$$$, (3) performs and looks better than the OEM units. It seems that the only real game in town given these criterion is Racing Brakes' two piece rotors, which weigh in at about 7 lbs. lighter than the C32 OEM rotors.

I just got off the phone with "Steve" at Racing Brakes about a possible group buy on these. He stated that, if we can get 5 purchasers, he can offer us a 20% discount on two front rotors. What this means is that the price for a pair of fronts would range from (pre-tax, pre-shipping) $655 (closed slots) to $698 (closed slots and cross-drilled) to $737 (open slots). These will work for either a C32 or a C55.

The rotors are located at their Fullerton, CA facility. Presumably, they can be picked up to avoid shipping charges. If this is not an option for you, Steve says shipping would range from $25 (Cali) to $50 (East Coast).

If so, I am interested, especially if the prices listed in your post are for TWO ROTORS. I'm in Canada.

Can I also assume that the rotors are different left to right (unlike the OEM rotors which are the same left to right and only offer proper cooling for one side)??

What's the price comparison to what people have been paying lately for the stock ones?

I just did slotted only fronts (they were CL500 rotors that evosport graciously slotted for me) for $280/rotor for me-stock weight-but the above seems kinda spendy for 7 lbs (I'm all for reducing mass-but I dont see that gains for 200% price increase!)

You paid $280/rotor=$560 for two front rotors.

Racing Brakes is offering us two (2) rotors for between $655 and $737 (for two). I fail to see how this is a "200% price increase" from what you paid. My math is rusty, but it appears that we are talking about roughly a 20% premium over what you paid for OEM CL500 rotors with slots added.

Maybe I misunderstood your post.

I agree that these are pricey but, 7 pounds is pretty substantial. Coming from the bicycling world, you will spent about $1000 for every drop of 100 grams of weight. Keeping that in mind, 200% for 7 pound is a relative steal.

You can find OEM equivalent aftermarket rotors for roughly $200/pair. Believe me, I am as cheap as the next guy, and was tempted to go that route. However, for the prices which Racing is quoting, I will pony up the extra cash for better quality/lighter weight/better looks.

What do you think about the whole "open vs. closed slotted" question? Steve was telling me that "open slotted" (where the slot is cut all the way through the rotor disc) is better, as the slots don't clog with dust. Seems like a logical statement, but maybe someone out there has experience with the issue?

Honestly I wish you luck cause many prefer the look at a decent price over the substantial weight reduction...I worry too cause at 7lbs that's very light compare to the stockers(25-27lbs) and makes me wonder how strong they may be Especially for AutoX...I think that's a great price but I just bought 4 new rotors so please anyone who buys these please post a review so I may get them next time. you SAVE 7lbs each, NOT that they're 7lbs each.

once you've experienced lighter weight rotors such as brembos and stoptechs...stock one just doesn't compare.

I think this is a great group-buy for those that's looking for better performance without going $3000k into Brembo GT or Stoptech.

i looked at it. slotted and open-slotted don't make much difference. IMO. when the rotor's spinning at high speed just how much dust is deposited in the slot is hard to tell. I doubt it's that much.

I get my stock C32 rotors for $199/each from the dealer with discount.
paying over twice as much per rotor isn't worth it in my opinion. I rather upgrade to the CLK55 6 piston setup which come with 2 piece rotors right...

7lb savings is huge! Is that 7lbs per, or 3.5? Either way impressive for the price. Had I not just installed new rotors/pads on mine mine front and rear, I'd jump on this. Hmm, if it's a 7lb saving per rotor I just might jump on this anyway.
For 99% of us on here the closed slot/cross-drilled would be more than enough.

Havent noticed any build up in my "closed" slots-and I have noticed a def improvment when the brakes are wet (stockers were junk when wet)-first track/race this weekend-will post thoughts!

7 lbs per rotor. I have heard that each pound of unsprung weight is equal to 4 or 5 pounds of sprung weight in terms of performance. So, losing 14 lbs. of unsprung weight via the front rotors is like losing 56-70 lbs. out of the trunk. Not sure if the formula is accurate/true but, if so, that is huge weight reduction.

Def. one of the first and easiest mods is to reduce the weight on cars-w/o adding hp to the motor-maybe start a poll to see who is int in the group buy and see if we can put something together (would this cross over to the SRT6 guys at all?)-

I just received a pair of the open slot ones from them for my C32 brake upgrade that I'll be doing pretty soon.

They look great - should be installing them within the next couple of weeks or so, and post pics/review at the non-AMG W203 forum.

They're pricey, but as has been said, it's a pretty substantial unsprung weight savings.

Do you know if they offer the rear rotors too?

And for the guys paying $200/rotor at the dealership. You can purchase them online for $100/piece. OEM.
