Highly recommend - Devtoaster REV + WLAN ODB2 Monitor

Heya guys,

For the past few days I have been playing around with this toy i picked up that interacts with my Apple Iphone.

From the apps store, you can purchase REV for 29.99 ... and link it up to one of many wireless ODB2 devices that can be viewed @ their website.

http://www.devtoaster.com/products/rev/index.html

You can record multiple real time readings and have the results sent to you in email through your iphone via a .csv file (excel)

Per example... I attempted a 0-60 run... here was the results:

MPH - TIME
0 6:15:18 AM
8.07 6:15:18 AM
11.18 6:15:19 AM
20.50 6:15:19 PM
32.31 6:15:20 PM
41.01 6:15:21 PM
48.46 6:15:21 PM
55.92 6:15:21 PM
63.37 6:15:22 PM

roughly low 4 sec to 63mph...

Here is another detailed view of that run (i actually went to 106mph)

The numbers are listed in order: Time, MPH,MAF,Throttle Position

6:15:18 PM 0.00 3.69 1.18
6:15:18 PM 8.08 72.88 70.59
6:15:19 AM 11.18 98.47 13.73
6:15:19 PM 20.51 163.11 100.00
6:15:20 PM 32.31 218.58 99.61
6:15:21 PM 41.01 269.91 100.00
6:15:21 PM 48.47 221.86 100.00
6:15:21 PM 55.92 228.91 99.61
6:15:22 PM 63.38 251.50 99.61
6:15:23 PM 68.35 273.61 100.00
6:15:24 PM 73.32 229.91 48.63
6:15:25 PM 78.29 211.05 100.00
6:15:26 PM 82.02 216.33 99.22
6:15:26 PM 86.37 227.94 100.00
6:15:27 PM 90.72 238.80 100.00
6:15:28 PM 95.07 250.80 100.00
6:15:28 PM 99.42 260.72 99.61
6:15:29 PM 103.15 266.80 100.00
6:15:29 PM 106.88 274.88 100.00

0-106.88mph in roughly 11.00 seconds

A few points I have noticed using the device... while I was running up to 100 around 2nd to 3rd there is a hesitation (slight) when the car is shifting, ...actually its not the smoothest shift, kinda rough actually... but this data is showing my throttle position drops to nearly 50% even though i have my foot planted.

Countless other features including the ability to show vehicle CEL codes, reset them and monitor pending issues.

I will be making a short little video showing how it works later... i know you guys will like it.

ElmCanII-WLAN - i ordered from the link on the site. It comes from Germany... took about 7 days to Midwest.

The program and ElmCanII-WLAN works on any car... I have tested with various friend's cars... even one of them that had a check engine line (had it on for years and never looked into it)... ended up being some vacum pressure issue with leaving his gascap off one day.. i reset it and it hasnt came back on ! ... ha ha

Got some great info from Cory

Actually, that's not strange at all. These cars close the throttle between shifts, as not to shock-load the transmission- a protection feature built into the ECU and TCU. With the torque your car is making, it would break something were the throttle to remain open 100% while it's shifting- shock loads are a transmissions worst enemy. :-) This is probably the #1 complaint I get, even on stock cars- most just hate they way these cars are programmed to shift, and I tend to agree. If only the old cars got the double-clutch 7-Speed that's in the SL63....

Those are nice times! almost as fast as Car and Driver got our demo C55 to go, but then again, they were using very expensive VBOX GPS based measuring instruments which are likely more accurate than the REV app for the iPhone. I think the fastest they got our old demo car to go was like 3.8 0-60. I've seen other customer C55's run 11.75's in the 1/4 on street tires before....Get a set of DR's and get those low 11's posted

Awsome, thanks for the heads up!

BTW, when I look up the app the price displays $39.99.
Still much cheaper than any other logging-scanner though.

ah musta been a weekly special when i ordered on appstore ..

additional non-topic info from cory (anyone ever try this?)

At the drag strip, I'd recommend keeping the car on (not running, but key in the on position) and turning the heater up to max hot/max fan speed while you're waiting to stage- this will help get heat out of the motor significantly faster than just letting it sit with the hood open- this is what I do when I have a car on the dyno- I actually keep the heater on at all times- it makes a pretty big difference in terms of delaying heat soak, and recovering from it much, much faster.

Yup - he's right, too... works like a charm, especially if you're at the track on a cool night.

I love this idea but that expense is pushing me to a $99 data logger instead.

ya the wifi odb2 is about 270.00 after shipping ; guess that is kinda expensive ... The thing to consider though is this is "not" just limited to your car... this can be used in any car... your DD, friends car, parents, rentals ... whatever has 4 wheels and ODB2

minimal expense to have as a fallback device imo since it pulls codes, allows you to clear and has various other features

I would also look into the blue tooth connector instead of the Wifi.. probably cheaper.

either way.. i'll wait until the connectors are cheaper.. and BlackBerry has an app similar to the Iphone.

those of you that are programmers.. there is $$ to be made.

ya if you think about it... simple wifi usb with a hardcoded ad hoc AP connection setup, then just transmit the ODB2 info

they are making a killing at 260 each
