Maybe because until the other driver sees the back of the car/brakes they have no idea

Sooo frustrating!
Living in NYC, you would expect that I encounter a lot of nice cars on the roads, and to a certain extent this is true. I have seen my fair share of Ferrari's, Bentley's etc, but its rare that guys in the exotics want to run, at least in my experience, and for some reason I don't seem run into any ricers or SRT's etc at all.
So anyway, I'm driving to pick up my girlfriend last night from the train station, and I'm just coming up to a section of road in an industrial area of town where a 2 lane minor road turns into a 4 lane, straight and level, 1/2 mile long strip between traffic lights, and like I said its in an industrial area so there is never any traffic.
I look in the rear view mirror and turning onto the road behind me is a late model vette. He gives it a little gas behind me and his car is LOUD, obviously modded, at least the exhaust. So we both get to the red light at the start of the strip, and he pulls up beside me... sure enough there is the Z06 logo.
So we're all set up right? I'm probably going to get smoked but I'm just so excited I finally have a chance to safely run someone in a fast car...
The light turns green, we both go and....
Both completely lose traction because its been raining steadily for an hour. Obviously neither of us got on it hard because of the conditions, but we just kinda looked at each other, shrugged, and drove off at 30mph.
