AUX - Am I missing something?

I recently bought a C55 - Diamond black, '05. Just love it - my wife thinks it's the best car I've ever owned, adn I've been through a few. From my reading here, I'm supposed to be able to play an Ipod by plugging it into the aux plug in the glove compartment. However, when I open up the glove compartment I do see the hole for aux, but no wire. Is this a separate wire that I need to get, and if so where do I get it? Or, is there supposed to be one in the glove compartment? I'd apreciate a picture if it's helpful. Thanks.

you will need a aux wire, you can get them just about anywhere. If you go this route you can only control your ipod/mp3 player from the unit itself. If you get the ipod kit from say the dealer, then you can control the unit from the stearing wheel and you will see your songs up on the instrument cluster. None of these set up will show file info on the nav screen.

I bought the wire from Radio Shack. The wire will go from the speaker output to the AUX input. As mentioned you control the ipod like normal and the car simply acts as the speakers.

Cool. Thanks for the responses. I'll check with the dealer to see how much the integration with the Steering wheel controls will cost. If it's too much, I'll just use the radioshack wire. Much appreciated!

I can tell you right now it's too much. You can get a cord for under $5 from pretty much anywhere. It's only a headphone jack basically.

Ok then. I've got my playlists well organized anyway, so I shouldn't have to mess with the Ipod too much. Thanks!

My AUX cable setup

I ran the cable out the backside of the glove box. There is a plastic trim peace that you can remove just under the glove box. I took it off and ran the cable under it.

I then ran the cable under where the carpet hits the center console (ms paint ftw)

This is the only part I don’t like. I tried to find some way to run the cable into the bottom of the center console, but couldn't. So I ran it up the back of the console and into a hole I drilled in the back of the top part of the center console.

Front shot

All in all, it does work very nicely. The ipod is right at my fingertips, the cable is almost completely hidden and with the dual hinge console the passenger can have easy access as well.
