C55 exhaust resonator removal
Wassup everyone,
Does anyone have a pic of C55 exhaust resonator? I just wanted to make sure that I remove the correct one.

C55 exhaust resonator removal
Hey Guys,
Excuse my ignorance, but what do you replace when you remove the resonator. Do you by any chance have a before and after pic..?
Also what is difference by removing the resonator.. A loud sound, more fuel economical...?

it doesnt change the fuel economy or power. it might lighten up the car just a little. the sound you get is much better. very nice sound. you wont regret it.....you might like it so much, that you'll get "on it" more and your fuel economy will go down, like me. lol.

white and whiter
you replace it with a pipe. the exhaust shop will know what size when the take a look, but i'm gonna guess its somewhere between 2.5 and 3'.

to get the best out of the dual exhaust on the 55 tho I would chop off the entire section after secondary and before the split to make it into a true dual with x-pipe replacing the resonator.

and no, the resonator has no effect on emissions. you will be fine in CA. it's purely for sound (thus the term "resonator")

reversible? well, it basically entails them chopping off a little piece of pipe (the resonator) and replacing it with a straight pipe. so if you really wanted to, you could go back and chop of the new piece of pipe and put in the resonator, but i dont see why you would want to.

Final question - how about drone on the freeway? Is it more noticeable? That was why I was wondering if it is reversable, in case it drove me nuts.
Oh yeah, and how much to chop and weld in a new pipe?

cost - depending if you get a SS pipe or mild steel pipe, figure somewhere bewteen 20-40 for the pipe (again depends on material) and probably 50 for the labor. The 3" SS pipe i got was a 3ft piece costing me $30 (10 per foot) and then the labor was like $55.
