Good stuff! Just placed an order and have this on the way.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DEI-010110/ and http://www.summitracing.com/parts/THE-13575/ (only went with one, hoping I don't need two just for the bottom of the boxes) and for some extra color/seal to go over the black in the kit - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/THE-12002/

Along these same lines, has anyone wrapped their headers? I'm not sure if that would be a good or bad idea on these cars. I would think it would help cut down on some of the heat radiating off.

I dunno, I've heard too many horror stories of guys removing the hood insulation and cooking their paint. On a CF hood that's one thing, but I wouldn't dare try it on our. Then again it could just be boogy man stories...

Trevor. I've heard of bad things from wrapping headers. It actually decreases the lifespan of the header. Do some searching. I think i posted a link somewhere about a month or two ago about it because I was thinking about doing it.

I've had buddies who have had it happen to their cars (non-MB). It leaves the paint looking like the hood has leprosy. Just sayin...

I intalled the thermotec stuff on the bottom of my Renntech Airbox bout 2 years ago. Works fine -- helps delay heat soak. Installed with 3m spray adhesive (works great) and sealed the seams with high temp black electrical tape (not so good). Per Wawy, I also installed the 2008 CLK 350 Kevlar intake tubes on my C55. Not only are they bigger, they look better and are more heat resistant. I just checked at the Stealer's last week and these intakes seem to be the same size, if not exactly the same, as the 2009 CLK 550 and SL 550 Kevlar intake tubes. However, to get these to work, I had to use a rubber plumbing coupler from Home Depot between the end of each Kevlar tube and the begining of each plastic attachement that connects to the OE air intake scoop mounted on either side of the radiator.

I've been using these kevlar tubes on my old car, and on this one too, it works perfectly. the fitment is not 100% perfect, its a bit shorter...but its great!

btw, try this....I used multiple layers of clear coat on it. it's been holding up!

I just got done heat wrapping my 55 boxes and the snorkels this weekend. Please make sure you have lots and lots of patience and you are handy with a pair of scissors. The aluminized heat barrier is very thick and not very moldeable. I recommend taking measurements and making paper shapes on each section prior to make the cuts. A 40" x 36" sheet was plenty to get the job done.

Will do later, didn't bring the car to work today. The wrapping was only done at the bottom half of the boxes and some areas of the tubes. It's not very noticeable.

Yes, thanks again Advans!.. Clear coat huh? I already have a nasty habit of clear coating everything -- even if its just for protection -- like my airbox, for example.

heat Wrap

Hello :
yes I did , It was a bit teedeus , I did it on a hot Florida Morning, so it was easier to lay into the all the crease's . Then I sealed all the seams & edges with a gell type of locktite super bonder . You can get that at LOWES.
Cheers _PTEngineering

Clear coating! I'm not sure if it helps, but mentally the car feels better haha

btw, I re-shaped my tubes, I'm hoping to cut it, and enlarge it as well, just have no time on my hands, and not sure how I can put them together.... I'm gonna see if I can fiber glass it, not sure if that would be a good idea
