We are still finalizing pricing and testing, however I think many of you will be surprised at the affordability of our headers vs others on the market. --We don't have to pay the high import fees as others do.

i'm just worried that once you take it in for service, they'll know right away that you did some modifications to your engine. i know they need to prove that it's the fault of the after market part but they'll probably give you a hard time about it if something breaks.

Answers:

1. HP/TQ are with ODPS.

2. We will have price for them very shortly.

3. Stock air boxes cover them up, so during regular service they are not very noticeable. If something major needs to be done on the engine, dealer has to prove that whatever problem you have was caused by the headers.

4. They should fit all V6 (240, 320, C32) engines in all chassis. According to the dealer there is only one part number for stock manifolds for all chassis. We will confirm this with time.

Vadim,

I am not very technical when it comes to cars. So I have a few questions about the headers. I undersand the concept of the ODPS and the pulley in general in getting more power but about the headers I have the following:

1)What is the role of the headers in regards to the engine and the SC.

2) How do you get more power out of them and what are the implications of the power in terms of strain on the engine. Most of my previous cars have been turbocharged which I have done a little bit of tuning on and in my experience more power (ie chips) = less engine life, blown turbos etc.

3) Why is it so curvy and vastly different from the stock header?

4) What are the implications on fuel economy and reliability of the new header vs. the stock header. What happens if something goes wrong with the new header. What possible implications are there on the engine?

Thanks Vadim.

Here are some specs on the headers. Primary tubes are 1 5/8'' (vs. 1.5'') and 10.5-11'' long. Collector is 3 into 1 and 1 3/4'' vs. 1 5/8''. Headers are made from mild steel and coated inside and out with anti-corrosion, high-temperature coating. They will come with all necessary gaskets. We will be applying for CARB exemption.

Here are the dyno graphs. I am showing 3rd gear vs. rpm to keep confusion down. The upper graph is HP, the lower is TQ.

The red graph is our C32 stock. It put down 277HP and 282 TQ.
On the same run, it made 283HP in the 4th. It was all the way at the end of the run and extra HP came on the shift spike into 5th. Otherwise, the graphs are the same between 3rd and th 4th. So, for comparison we will stick with the 3rd.

Just for the record - 277HP is a bit below average. Of ten C32s that we have now dynoed - the highest is 297HP and the lowest is 266HP. Please search archives for more info.

Blue graph is ODPS. On our car it added 20-27HP and 25-27 ft. lbs. of TQ.

Green graph is headers. It added an additional 13HP and 15 TQ.

One interesting note is that half of HP gains for the headers only happened after we replaced the resonator with a straight through pipe. An obvious question than is how much removing the resonator on a stock car is worth. We tested both stock and ODPS car with resonator removed and there were no HP gains.

Dropping the exhaust completely and leaving H-pipe with cats on, the car actually lost 20HP. My theory is that headers on a car with a compressor are a lot more sensitive to exhaust tuning vs. normally aspirated cars. I checked with a friend who owns a Mustang shop confirmed the theory. New Supercharged SVT Cobras are very touchy to header sizing and length and catback system.

Now, we all remember from previous posts that Peter's C32 made 314HP and 297TQ with ODPS. Graph above shows his C32 vs. ours - stock. As you can see, his car was 12-14HP and 10-12TQ stronger than ours. My guess is with headers his car will be very close to 330HP.

One unknown is "Fuel Setting" in each car. At this time, we have not been able to confirm if there is HP/TQ difference between "BASE", "92" and "94" settings. It very well could be that Peter's C32 has different settings, accounting for power differences.

Asking the dealer to change the setting is hard to control as one does not have a way to confirm if they have actually done so.

In April, we will be testing software from Powerchips to see if there is more power to be had with the current configuration.

Prasith: I hope this answers your questions.

1. Headers or exhaust manifolds route hot exhaust gases from the engine.

2. You get more power by tuning the length and diameter of the headers so they evacuate exhaust gases more efficiently. The more air the engine draws in and out, the more power it will make. On the C32, the kompressor pushes the air in - the exhaust manifolds and the exhaust system "pull" that air out.

3. The headers are curvy because of tuning. By having all of the tubes at the same length, an additional TQ gain can be had at certain rpm range. There is only so much room, so we have to curve them to make tubes fit.

4. I have not seen an effect on mileage at this point. I have had them on our C32 for the last 2000 miles. My fuel economy is still at 16.9 mpg. Now I drive hard, so as they say "your results may vary". As far as reliability, we are using anti-corrosion, high-temperature coating to make sure that the headers last a long time.

I hope this answers your questions. If you do a search on Yahoo, under "header theory", you will find numerous sources for more detailed information. Thanks.

wow... that some impressive results vadim!

you guys thought of selling the whole ODP + header + chip as a package? when everything is ready?

hopefully the price can be more attractive.

i know that CARB certification will take a while... so i'll be waiting! :p

Send me an email to ben@evosport.com with your contact information. I will put you on the list to contact when our headers are available.

We are in the process of updating many new products on our website. Just because they aren't there, doesn't mean that we don't carry them. The MB pulleys for $499 are underdrive pulleys, the opposite of our C32 pulleys. Was there some specific information you were looking for?

All current orders for our C32 ODPS w/ IC reservoir upgrade should ship this Monday!

Is there any cutting or welding required to make the headers fit better once they are installed on the car?

No cutting or welding required. They are direct bolt on.

Vadim :
Is this confirmed ?
C32K can benefit the new headers as well as C32AMG, right ?

Yes, but we still need to confirm fitment. Give us a month or so to get production going, than we try different chassises.

ML and SLK do 100% use different exhaust manifold design, the header might fit on anyway, somebody check out with MB ????.

Anyway looking good

Vadim,

If I read this correctly, are you saying that the 13HP/15TQ gain was with the headers AND resonator removed?

If we keep the resonator, then the HP gain will be ~6HP?

Thanks!

Yes, resonator helped with headers only. I know it sounds strange, but we tested without resonator on a stock and ODPS cars, without any HP gains.

BTW, with headers and no resonator, car sounds just perfect. There is a slight increase in engine sound on the inside and a nice growl at WOT on the outside.
