Options for 165 crank pulley for C 32

Short introduction to my sad story. Recently bought my ’02 32 which is equipped with a Kleemann pulley kit, custom headers and tune. Brought the car into the stalership for an SRS light. While going through the car they informed me that the crank pulley has gone south at the age of 44,000 miles. My extended warranty covers a stock replacement pulley. Telephoned Kleemann who told me they would be happy to sell me another crank pulley for $1,700. Further conversation revealed that the Kleemann pulley is 165 while the stock pulley is 155 (haven’t verified this information). Being that I don’t have $1,700 to drop on another pulley do you fine folks know where I might find 165(+-) pulley that would work with my tune? Through my search I have only found pulleys in the 180s and I don’t want to go that big. I also don’t want to purchase an entire new pulley kit when I only need one component.
Conversely, is there really such a big difference in 10mm of a pulley?
Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

you sure kleeman's is a 165 and not a 178? that is strange.

the pulley sizes available are 178 (through evosport, LET/Eurocharged, ASP, Renntech), 181 (you'll have to get this one used), and 185 (LET/Eurocharged)

boots levels......178 ~ 17psi, 181 ~ 19-20psi, 185 ~22-23psi,

185 requires a tune, 178 does not.

all kits SHOULD come up with other pulleys. I suppose if yours IS just 165 then the stock belt may just barely fit or perhaps a larger belt was used. do you have the OEM belt or a larger belt?

the 178+ kits come with additional pulleys to allow for proper fitment.

A larger belt was used with the pulley kit. I had to purchase a new stock belt for the stock pulley. The rest of my Kleemann pulley kit is still in place. I’m only going by what the guy at Kleemann told me over the phone as to the 165 size as I haven’t got to pick up the car and the broken pulley from the stealer yet. I’m still in a state of shock over the Kleemann replacement quote.

Good find. I spoke with Brandon in Colorado Springs rather than Cory. If the Kleemann pulley is indeed a 178 then perhaps I’ll source a replacement from a more budget sensitive vendor and thus be able to put gas in the thing. Your not only a MCAT master but a pulley advisor as well.

Well done sir.

not a problem. just wanna make sure you have the right info and arent screwed over. watching out for my C32 brethren

haha....i only know pulleys b/c i've tried almost every size......i've had an evosport 178, two code3s, and a 185 now.

definitely double check though. maybe, for some reason, you do have a 165 crank pulley ONLY with a larger belt. it IS possible, but i've just not heard of it for the C32. you know, you could always just measure the crank pulley in your car.....the broken one....or is that not available to you because your car is in a shop right now?

The car is still in the shop. Originally sent it in there for the SRS light which turned out to be the child seat occupancy sensor in the front passenger seat which of course the extended warranty will not cover. Entertaining buying the $150 dollar part and doing it myself rather than spending $800 for them to do it.
Being the pulley educated man that you are where with 3,400+ posts where would you source a 178 from?

yah. buy the $150 part and do it yourself. i'm sure someone here or in the W203 forum could help you out with that. i'm not too familiar with that part.

Ok.....so sounds like you're on a budget (just like me).....but you would need to decide if you want to go used or new

NEW/Best Deals (non of that ridiculous 1K crap):

ASP Pulley (178mm): http://needswings.com/ASP-Pulley-Kit-331380.aspx (899 i think)

Eurocharged (178mm): http://www.eurocharged.com/index.php...d=41&Itemid=99
(799 i think)

USED

ok, so if you are going to get a used pulley, couple things.
a) make sure you get pictures of the outside of the pulley, making sure there is no damage to the surface on which the pulley goes off
b) you will need a new crank bolt (one time use bolts)

now with that in mind, your best bet is to post in THIS forum, in the Engine/Performance Classifieds, AND in the SRT6 Crossfire forum (http://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/crossfire-srt6/).

You should be able to get a used 178 for under 400-500 IMO. Anything more than 500 is a ripoff. And make sure it comes with all the accessory pulleys with the kit as well.

Obviously, the down side to doing this is that it will take longer to find one. gotta post, wait for someone to say they have one (if there is one for sale), ship, etc.....you get the point

If you are interested in going new and want the Eurocharged one, PM Loungn14. He is a great guy to work with and can hook you up.

If you are interested in going new and want the ASP one, emailed Rob at either sales@needswings.com or rob@needswings.com . He is also a great guy to work with. I email him almost daily lol.

Great. When I get the old part back I’ll measure to make sure of the 178 size. If it is indeed 178 then I’ll work to convince the wife that passenger airbags are overrated and do not begin to compare with the importance of hp and tq.

UPDATE ON THAT (and not meaning to thread hijack)

just got home from DynoComp. Pulley Saver Kit installed. I recommend it to anyone applicable. Somehow, my LET idler pulley with the upgraded bearing was failing. Odd....I installed it in March

but, with regards to the coolant system split

There is NO WAY that a C32 can get an additional reservoir in the engine bay unless it is either:

a) Code3's
b) Needswings (not really a reservoir, check out their website)

or

c) smaller airpump needed and relocated.

we tried relocating my air pump but there was no place for the smallest reservoir (at least that would do anything) to fit. Not even behind the driver side light (which is where the catch can is going to go). I will have to update you guys on the reservoir. Might go with the Needswings one (again, not really a reservoir, but a split system nonetheless) b/c the code3 is just way too expensive

Got the 32 back today from the stealer. Drove home on my stock pulley with less power, less money and tear in my eye. Anyway, I snapped a few pictures of my 44k mile old defunct Kleemann pulley which is indeed a 178. Now to start saving my nickels and dimes for a 178 kit from Eurocharged while telling myself that airbags are a fad (just like the internet).
Thanks again for the guidance.

Been doing some data logging huh?

Feared some may have thought I was spinning a yarn claiming my lowly 178 is indeed generating 19 psi.
Sure doesn’t do it during summertime atmospheric conditions though.
