Buying a C32 AMG

Hi All,

I would like to start off by stating "what a great site"
I am currently in the process of purchasing a C32 AMG 2001 model and would like to get advice on the following issues:

1. The car recently had brand new pads all round the car and during the test drive I can feel a judder when braking. The discs seem ok. Could this be that the new pads need time to settle in ?

2. There is a slight squeaky noise coming from the steering wheel when driving. Has anyone experienced this before ?

Look forward to any guidance.

Many thanks Razor

a 2001? you sure its an 01? they made them from 02-04. maybe it was made in 2001.5 model, but is actually an 02?

1) a judder? like you feel vibrations? front or back? sounds like warped rotors

2) i have no squeaky noise

congrats on your upcoming new car! and start saving up for some mods to make that thing REALLY go!

thanks for the quick reply

it is a 51 plate.

Also not sure where the sounds is coming from but feels like the front I think.
Are warped rotors expensive to fix and did the issue occur with the new pads as the previous owner did not replace the discs at the same time ?

thanks Razor

the judders sounds like a worn rubber bushing on the torque strut. I had to replace them right after I got my car too. If you can jack the car up and do a visual inspection. You can just replace the rubber bushing if the other end is not damaged.

Squeaking from turning the steering wheel or coming from the front when driving?

First, CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW RIDE!!! just want to tell you that i got my car back in oct 02 but it's a 03 and has not disappointed me ever. despite some quick fixes here and there. Characteristics of an AMG car.
as for the judder it's probably a warped rotor like jturk said, you can't see it by visual inspection alone. Also, the people on this site have been EXTREMELY helpful and most problems are solved pretty easily.

As far as squeeking from the steering wheel the only thing I could think of is it running low on power steering fluid.

Im great at accents. But being in the states for 15 years believe or not i have a american accent. There's a little bit of the New England Accent from working in Boston for a while. Or maybe watching The Departed too many times.

GREAT MOVIE!!!!

Replace the rotors though because I have never heard of someone trying to fix a warped rotor. Does the squeek only occur while turning the wheel or does it vary at different times?
